ALT Sitting in the historical setting of the Royal Danish Geographical Society, Mads Dømgaard is explaining his latest results to Radio Denmark (DR1). The project has made the longest reconstruction of aerial images in Antarctica to date, and show that part of East Antarctica has been extremely stable in the last 85 years. However, bigining signs of instability are starting to show.
Have a look at our new research! A huge project led by @Doemgaard shows the longest historical reconstruction of glaciers in Antarctica.
This part of East Antarctica has been remarkably stable during the last 85 years, but signs of weaknesses are showing..

Greenland’s ice shelves hold back sea level rise. There are just 5 left. wapo.st/3MwPzlA
We have a new and important paper out on the state of the last ice shelves in Greenland. They have recently lost more than a third of their volume, and as a result sea-level rise will accelerate. Read this great 🧵and here: ign.ku.dk/english/news/2023/…

While researching for my Master's Thesis I came across this photo in 2016 of the Mittivakkat Glacier on Ammassalik Island, SE Greenland. On my trip there in 2022 I happened to take a photo in almost the same spot... #greenland #tasiilaq #eastgreenland #climatechange #Arctic

With measurements in the field, from satellite, and with modelling we show the importance of getting the basal conditions right for NEGIS in Greenland.

🚨Last week, a great paper on mountain glaciers came out! "Ice velocity and thickness of the world’s glaciers" by R. Millan et al: nature.com/articles/s41561-0…
My take on (1) why its important, (2) why some media headlines were misleading without context, and (3) what comes next!

@G_Luetzenburg mapped a 130m long coastal cliff, with an accuracy of 10cm.
That is pretty impressive for a tiny gadget that you might already have in your pocket. Possibilities 🤯

Our new @NatureComms study shows three Greenland glaciers contributed 8mm to *global* sea-level rise since 1900. But *local* sea level has fallen at these glaciers (up to 500mm!) due to weakening local gravity.
