Situation of the Arabs before Islam according to Ibn Kathir (8:26): This clan of the Arabs was the most humiliated of people in humiliation, the most wretched in living, the hungriest in bellies, the barest in skins, and the clearest in misguidance, muzzled on the top of a rock, between the two lions, Persia and Rome, and by Allah, there was in their lands on that day nothing for which they were envied; whoever lived among them lived miserable, and whoever died among them was hurled into the Fire, they were eaten and did not eat, and by Allah, we do not know a tribe from among the settled people of the earth on that day that was in a worse abode than them, until Allah brought Islam and established by it in the lands, and expanded by it in provision, and made them by it kings over the necks of people. And by Islam Allah gave what you have seen, so thank Allah for His favors, for your Lord is a Bestower who loves gratitude, and the people of gratitude are in increase from Allah [ta‘ala].
