Bitcoin is being killed by Bitcoin maximalism. Seeing signs of maximalism in Zcash. Not great IMO. Examples: Fighting for ossification, saying "Zcash is not a trade" (which I'd argue is NOT your revealed preference if you own much more than one 8-billionth of the supply, give or take a few orders or magnitude), and playing games of no true Zcasher. IMO Zcash is pragmatic Bitcoin. To win we need to stay pragmatic. It's ok to take profits if you can't spend your Zcash today. It's ok to have new ideas and innovations. IMO, the more energy that tries to drag Zcash towards stasis at the expense of long term vision, the shorter its reign.

I’m French. I want to talk to Americans who are about to vote Democrat. Not to insult you. To warn you. I come from your future. In France we did everything your progressive politicians promise. Free healthcare, free college, generous welfare, strong unions, heavy regulation, high taxes on the rich, a state that takes care of everything. Public spending close to 57% of GDP, one of the highest on the planet. On paper, it’s the dream. Here’s what it looks like from the inside. France hasn’t passed a balanced budget since 1974. Our debt is above 3,300 billion euros. Interest on that debt is becoming one of the biggest items in the national budget. Our hospitals are collapsing despite record funding. Our schools rank lower every year. Young people with degrees can’t afford an apartment in the city they were born in. Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco. And the rich you wanted to tax? They left too, and took the jobs with them. The promise was protection. The result is stagnation. The worst part is that nobody in France voted for decline. Every single step sounded generous, compassionate, reasonable. One more program. One more regulation. One more tax to fund it. Each step alone makes sense. Fifty years of them, and you wake up in a country that can no longer build a nuclear plant on time or keep its streets safe. I love America because it’s the one place on earth where people still believe they can build something from nothing. I came to Silicon Valley as a self-taught kid and it changed my life. That spirit is the most precious thing your country has. Before you vote, ask yourself one question: is the program you’re voting for making America more like America, or more like France? Trust me. You don’t want to be France.

On a ri.

T-Mobile spent five years trying to get rid of the exact spectrum Elon just called "the last critical piece" of complete phone coverage in America. This 800 MHz block is Sprint's old Nextel spectrum, the stuff that powered push-to-talk walkie-talkie phones in 2004. The DOJ forced T-Mobile to divest it as a condition of the $26 billion Sprint merger. Dish had first rights at $3.59 billion and walked away because it couldn't raise the money. T-Mobile finally offloaded it to an investment firm called Grain Management last year for $2.9 billion plus a spectrum swap. Grain's original plan was selling it to utilities for private networks. Fourteen months later, SpaceX buys the whole portfolio, and shares of the carriers who passed on it fall as much as 8% in a single afternoon. Here's why it matters so much. Starlink's satellite signal at 2 GHz can reach your phone outdoors, but it dies at the first wall. 800 MHz penetrates buildings. Most phones already have the band built in. So satellites handle the open sky, this low-band layer handles indoors, and suddenly Starlink Mobile covers everywhere a normal carrier does without the tower network. Stack the moves. $17 billion for EchoStar's 50 MHz of 2 GHz spectrum. FCC approval for 15,000 Gen2 satellites this week. Now the low-band coverage layer. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile paid $81 billion in a single auction for C-band spectrum in 2021, then spent years and tens of billions more deploying it on towers. SpaceX assembled a nationwide carrier out of a distressed-asset sale, a forced divestiture castoff, and rockets it already owns. The walkie-talkie spectrum from 2004 ended up being the piece that lets satellites replace cell towers. Nobody who touched it for twenty years saw that coming.

We announced an agreement to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum license portfolio that will pave the way for @Starlink to become a major mobile carrier in the US. 🚨BREAKING: ZachXBT says alleged DPRK attackers are now shielding stolen Bitget funds through Zcash. Around 2,700 $ZEC, worth $3.8M, has reportedly started moving into Zcash’s Ironwood. This means the stolen ZEC is now being pushed into a shielded pool, where transaction details can be hidden and tracing becomes much harder. Roughly 18,900 ZEC, worth $28.3M, was stolen from Bitget’s wider $388M breach across multiple assets. Earlier, Bitget CEO Gracy Chen says she is “not very optimistic” about recovering the stolen funds.

On the $ZEC Dev Fund debate: The Zcash community has decided its identity is “encrypted Bitcoin.” It has rejected adding more bells and whistles to the protocol. To become encrypted Bitcoin, Zcash must become a dependable store of value, and that means eventually ossifying. But the protocol cannot ossify now. Tachyon and quantum-resistance will take work. AI cyber hardening eventually requires full formal verification. There’s a final version of Zcash that will be ready to ossify. But it’s hard to imagine that happening within the next year or two. The Dev Fund has done a great job and was a necessary step to protect Zcash development at a time when there was no private funding for it. But there's a reason why the Dev Fund was not set to exist in perpetuity; under current rules it expires in 2028. But Zcash has run up so explosively, the size of that fund is an order of magnitude larger. I'm sympathetic to @maxdesalle's argument that Zcash does not want to become like a government. The political economy of slush funds and “grantmaking” is genuinely corrupting. The sheer size of the Dev Fund, given how much Zcash has run up, has changed it. A few million dollars of funding can be thoughtfully allocated by a few individuals, but once you’re $100M+, you must become an institution. Zcash’s Dev Fund is now precisely in that no man’s land that it will not be able to avoid becoming politicized. I think you just have to accept that, and minimize it as best you can. I believe the fund has to exist, at least for now. There's too much work left to do for a deeply technical project. But who governs that fund is a separate question. I agree with @matthuang that pure tokenholder governance is too volatile for a store of value asset. American citizens don't get to vote on the Fed Funds rate at the ballot box, and Bitcoin holders don't vote on code changes. Predictability is a prerequisite for storing value. Institutions can be wasteful and distasteful, but they are predictable. I’m of the opinion that this should be the final Dev Fund. It's large enough to fund the remaining work until Zcash is ready to ossify, and then wind down rather than search for other things to fund. If other work must be done afterward, it can be formed organically by holders and allies, just as it is for Bitcoin. I don’t think it should move toward pure tokenholder voting, though I’d be supportive of something partial. Councils suck, but they are often the best answer to a messy question. (Normally I don’t weigh in on Zcash governance, but @zooko asked me to share my perspective. Take it with a grain of salt.) Disclosure: Dragonfly holds $ZEC and I'm a personal investor in ZODL. ZODL does not benefit from the Dev Fund directly, but you should know where my incentives sit.

Thanks to @mert and a few others, I have no Bitcoin anymore. I got into Bitcoin in 2012, buying my first ever from Bitinstant for around $15 each. I learned about Bitcoin thru some article about The Silk Road. Never used the site, never into drugs, but always anti-authoritarian, so the idea that there was magic internet money that no government could stop was fascinating. In 2013-2014, I started going to Bitcoin meetups in Portland (PDXBTC), we'd chat Bitcoin and other coins too, if anybody wanted to buy some BTC, there were usually others willing to do a local swap. Some people sold things for BTC, small artisanal knick-knacks or sourdough bread. We didn't have a term for "Bitcoin maximalists" back then. But the idea that Bitcoin could be the only one, there can be no other cryptocurrency token which has any value to the world... would have sounded ridiculous to any of us. I learned about other coins, we called "altcoins" (every coin but Bitcoin). Litecoin was a 4x faster Bitcoin, with 4x higher max supply. I thought that was great, because waiting for confirmations for p2p transactions was so slow. Then I discovered Darkcoin -- like Litecoin, but with extra features. I fell in love w/this one, it became Dash, and I was a core dev there for a few years. So I've been a Bitcoiner since long before most BTC maxis or crypto "OGs", but I can also think rationally about the obvious facts. - BTC is transparent - Lightning is confusing, hard to use, fails a lot, ... and not Bitcoin - Due to the transparent nature, there's a constant quantum threat, a clock ticking down for BTC and all other transparent and obfuscated chains - Bitcoin is not fungible. Addresses can be censored and added to OFAC lists: github.com/0xB10C/ofac-sanct…. If you follow it out to its logical conclusion, eventually all Bitcoin will be tainted. Even today, a malicious actor with santioned BTC can dust any target addresses, and those become tainted. But probably the most egregious: - Bitcoin is ossified. Good luck trying to change any part of it. A sisyphean task. Wealth seizures, corrupt governments (oxymoron), every CEX requiring KYC. And now with AI to map every transaction. This isn't theory anymore. This is actually happening, and every tax office of every government in the world is hungry to get its hands on this technology. Meanwhile, there is one cryptocurrency which addresses all of Bitcoin's technical problems, by and large does not have toxic maxis, has a 10-year distribution, with some of the best cryptographers and cryptocurrency software engineers on the planet working on it. With post-quantum and 50k TPS scaling roadmaps. I still believe other tokens and networks have value, but in my mind, Zcash will take the crown from Bitcoin as the best SoV. There is no advantage to holding BTC over zcash:native . I don't have any more Bitcoin, because I lost my hardware wallet in a boating accident. But if I did have any, I would have migrated it all to the Zcash Ironwood shielded pool.

Elon Musk was asked how he handles employees who disagree with him publicly. His answer contradicts every leadership book written in the last 30 years. "I'd rather have someone who argues with me and is right than someone who agrees with me and is wrong." The room expected the diplomatic answer. That he values diverse perspectives. That healthy debate makes the team stronger. The standard CEO answer about psychological safety. He went further. He said the most dangerous person in any company is the one who agrees with you to protect their job. Because that person will let you drive the company off a cliff rather than risk being fired for telling you the cliff is there. The yes-man isn't loyal. He's selfish. He's trading the company's survival for his own comfort. He said SpaceX has a rule. If an engineer sees a problem and doesn't speak up, and the problem later causes a failure, the silence is treated as more serious than the mistake itself. The person who made the error was trying. The person who watched the error and said nothing was protecting themselves at the cost of the mission. Think about what that inverts. In most companies, the person who stays quiet and avoids conflict is rewarded with job security. At SpaceX, silence is the fireable offense and disagreement is the job requirement. Most leaders say they want honesty. Then they punish the first person who delivers it. He built a system where dishonesty through silence is the thing that gets punished. The culture didn't happen by accident. It was engineered to make agreement more dangerous than disagreement.

California has officially signed the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” (AB 2624) into law. This bill was created only after I exposed widespread fraud in immigrant communities across America, specifically in California’s Medicaid, nonprofits and other welfare programs funded by our tax dollars. These politicians need the fraud to continue and they sadly use immigrants to do so often. They fund nonprofits and NGOs with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year for immigration services, including free healthcare and have now made “immigration support service providers” essentially a protected class in California. For example, if I film a hospice or a “learing center” with no patients receiving millions through Medicaid and the owner gives me a paper saying I cannot publish the video, I cannot publish it. If I publish it to expose them and they claim it caused them “fear” or a third party threatens them, I face a minimum $4,000 civil fine plus the legal fees of the individual or group suing me. This bill was created by the Attorney General’s wife and co-sponsored by CHIRLA, a nonprofit that has received over $80,000,000 in taxpayer dollars for “immigrant support services.” Do you understand how this works yet? When the fraud is exposed, they create new laws to protect the fraudsters and penalize those who expose it. By signing this bill, the Governor and California politicians expose themselves as the corrupt politicians they are. This is not the end, the fight has just begun. More to come soon, this is far from over.
