Complete volte face by @kawalpreetdu. She originally claimed that challenging Constitutional democracy is acceptable. After I called her out, she is trying to tone down her damning drivel. Now she calls it "constitutional designs" not "democracy". She realized how insane it sounds to justify an attack on democracy. I mean, bhaisaab, Sharjeel Imam ko democracy hi ukhad kar fenk na hai and this woman excitedly supported it. Just because this attack on democracy is not by Hindu right-wing but by a Muslim Right-Wing. Now carefully replacing her words with other drivel like "mainstream centrist dogmas of a constitution" "analyzing nation-state's decent into majoritarianism" and blah blah.

Pseudoliberals covering for an Islamofascist.
Much of the criticism (now) being directed at Sharjeel Imam comes from people who have never actually read his work. Even for those who have, critiquing a constitutional democracy and the foundations of the Indian nation-state is a normal part of political debate and academic discussion and not a crime. This constant demand for Indian Muslims to practice respectability politics simply to fit into the 'mainstream' discourse is deeply flawed, as it has entirely failed to prevent their political, social, and economic exclusion. Imam should never have been targeted by the state for his views, and after spending six years in prison on these bogus charges, he does not owe anyone an explanation.

Islamists like Sharjeel want a weak Centre only in non-Muslim majority countries. Where they are the majority, they support centralisation. Most Muslim-majority states are highly centralised and enforce far greater uniformity.

Sharjeel Imam has shown once again that liberalism, secularism, constitutionalism and social justice etc exist in the subcontinent only within the Hindu polity. Outside it, they have no existence.

In 850, a Christian priest named Perfectus was living in Córdoba, the capital of Muslim-ruled Spain. One day, several Muslims asked him what he thought of Muhammad. According to St. Eulogius of Córdoba, Perfectus initially refused to answer because he knew that criticizing Islam could cost him his life. But after the men promised that he could speak freely, he openly criticized Muhammad. They reported him to the authorities, and Perfectus was arrested. He was executed in Córdoba that same year. His death was one of the first in a series of Christian martyrdoms under the emirate. In his account, Perfectus declared: “I have cursed and I curse your prophet.”
ISLAM is the most peaceful religion on earth.

Praveen is right. @IbnKhaldunIndic hasn’t quoted Imam out of context or put intent into his quotes. He has shed light on it. But the guardians of the Left-Secular religion don’t like it because Bharti exposes them. They have been rendered butt naked, and their sheen has fallen off.
Everyone is entitled to embrace prophets of their choice, but it’s best not to delude ourselves about the cause they invite us to venerate. The contempt Sharjeel Imam has for secularism and democracy is no @IbnKhaldunIndic setup, I’m afraid; his plain words are before us.

Sharjeel Imam's interview and writings have reinforced the unsaid reality about our constitution and India - India is a secular nation not because the Constitution says so but because Hindus are inherently secular.

I suspect that even Indian Leftists tacitly acknowledge that Sharjeel Imam's ideology is illiberal, hence they prefer to selectively target @IbnKhaldunIndic for being pseudonymous rather than constructively engage in criticism of the substantive arguments presented in Ibn Khaldun's article. Directly countering his arguments would force uncomfortable concessions whereas attacking the author's pseudonymity serves as a convenient "exit strategy."

Sharjeel Imam wants a temporary arrangement until he can reconquer and impose Jizya
The more you read #Sharjeel Imam's interview, the more you realize how diabolical is the whole thought process. He basically wants to open up the 1946-47 debate because he thinks Muslims in India did not get a good deal unlike Pakistan and Bangladesh where they got their own country. - The reason he eulogizes Jinnah because like Jinnah he's also seeking 'better' deal for Muslims in India. - Like Jinnah he also considers Muslims as a separate, distinct identity because of their religion. - This is what Jinnah had said and this is exactly what he is saying: "Musalmans [Muslims] are a nation according to any definition of a nation, and they must have their homelands, their territory, and their State." - He rejects any structure which will require Muslims to subsume their identity under the larger Indian identity. - As I said earlier, he thinks of India as nothing more than as an economic resource and Muslims need to be given a 'fair' share of this resource (where he'll define what is fair). - This thinking stems from a thought process which considers Muslims are rightful heir of Mughals and British should've basically handed India to them when they left. - All the BS about 'Ganga-Jamuni' tehzeeb and secularism is anathema to his thought process. - And since he knows that he/Muslims cannot force partition of India like 1947, he calling for restructring of the Constitution and the very framework which governs political India. - For Hindus, India that is Bharat is a civilizational state while for Sharjeel Imam, it is nothing but a conquered territory and Muslims need better terms to exploit this territory even as they live their lives under Sharia.

Replying to @Bhuut_
Of course Jinnah did try his best to avoid partition and the blame lies more on Congress for refusing to listen to his legit demands. But I don't see how the creation of Pakistan safeguarded all the Muslims of the subcontinent. It only protected the ones in present day Pak.

"It is an old habit of Indian Muslims to blame Hindus for their woes. However, the Indian Muslim intelligentsia has never really been critically introspective. It has not sought to relate its problems to its own attitudes. It has not developed a self-searching, self-critical attitude. Compared to the Hindus, the Indian Muslims accepted Western education rather late. As a consequence, the Muslims remained comparatively backward in several fields. The real cause of Muslim backwardness is found in the Muslim opposition to educational reform during the early days of British rule in India. Behind this view was a peculiar sense of resentment. Muslims in India believed that the British snatched away from their predecessors what was a Muslim Empire. When Sir Syed Ahmed Khan urged Muslims to accept modern Western education the ulema of Deoband came out with the fatwa that Sir Syed was a kafir. How can one blame the Hindus for this?" ~ Hamid Dalwai

"Sharjeel Imam is a nightmare for liberals because he says in public what many of them are afraid to say even in private. He does not look like a textbook text-adherent mulla, yet he sounds like one. The reaction is shock, or the performance of shock. He is a scholar of a particular kind, and his colour is too stark for the liberati, who keep a Sufi sher ready for every argument. When pressed, they retreat into the claim that understanding him requires critical theory, and this, and that, blah blah. Calling the Constitution fascist, secularism a trap, and democracy a device to deny Muslims their "divine right" is not critical theory. It is the Two-Nation Theory updated for a new century." Honestly, North Indian Muslims have learned nothing from Partition. Muslim identity politics has given them nothing. Maybe it’s time to consider secularising instead of constantly playing identity politics while simultaneously adopting a victim and superior mindset.
Sharjeel Imam has always been crystal clear about his anti-India and anti-Indian state ideology. He does not hide it, he does not mask it. It is his followers who do all sorts of mental gymnastics in trying to convince the ordinary citizens of India that their beloved Sharjeel does not mean what he says and they will explain to you what he actually means to say.

Is the US left just about revenge these days? Get power and then start prosecuting your enemies?
On the Bulwak podcast, Kara Swisher says Elon might already be in jail under Kamala Harris, and "he knows what's coming for him." Another one to put in the "what Democrats plan to do if they take power" file: "If Donald Trump loses the House and the Senate, I would worry. I'd be worried if I were him." "So they're going to start investigating again. You think he's not on the list? He's at the top of that list." "He has a very big sense of fate. And I think it's coming for him. And real hard." They're all just saying this stuff out loud now. There are no secrets about what they want to do.
