The new @CWGC Sierra Leone Memorial, dedicated this evening, rights a historical wrong and for the first time, 900 brave men are remembered by name. Hugely proud of my colleagues whose hard work and dedication has realised this moment. #WeWillRememberThem

Remembrance Day and Armistice Day are important moments of Commonwealth commemoration.
But for us, commemoration is not limited to just one time of the year. It’s an eternal commitment.

Remembrance is a time when we come together to reflect on loss and those lost in conflicts worldwide – but for us, remembrance goes far beyond one day in November.
Commemoration of the world war dead is our ongoing commitment, held in trust, to pass along to future generations.

Our work extends beyond Remembrance Day.
In 2026 alone, we have unveiled new memorials to the missing, began regeneration and upgrade works at sites around the world, presented new digital solutions for missing servicemen, added thousands of names to our database for commemoration, and more.

Remembrance is a time when we come together to reflect on loss and those lost in conflicts worldwide. But for us, remembrance goes far beyond one day in November.
For over a century, we have commemorated by name the 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth who died in military service during the First and Second World Wars.
Our work has not stopped. From maintaining and caring for their final resting places and points of commemoration, to identifying newly discovered remains and updating our records, to public outreach, our work continues to this day.
This Remembrance period, we'll be sharing stories from our colleagues and some of the stories of those we commemorate. Follow us to learn more 🔗

Last chance to sign up to join our Commemorations team for an online CWG Chat on 4th November as they discuss why our headstones look the way they do.
They will delve into the “Headstone Directives”, which refers to a large document that holds years of decisions surrounding headstone policy. It serves as a reference point whenever headstone-related work needs to be completed.
After their talk, there will be a Q&A session.
Members of the Foundation can register for free. They also get access to all our previous CWG Chats.

This Remembrance, we remember those who never returned home from the two world wars 🇳🇿
Second Lieutenant Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Ngārimu became the first Māori soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross, displaying extraordinary courage during the Battle of Tebaga Gap in Tunisia in 1943. He was just 28 years old when he was killed in action.
Today, he rests at Sfax War Cemetery in Tunisia, cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Through remembrance, his story will live on For Evermore.
