How Spotify makes text on images more readable: a CSS linear-gradient overlay. More common these days, but still an effective technique for better color contrast.

ALT Spotify uses CSS linear-gradient to make bright text on a bright background more readable. In this image, background: linear-gradient(0deg, #00000088 30%, #ffffff44 100%); is used for Discover Weekly cover art. This adds a gradient that gets darker lower down in the image, enabling the white text to be read more easily.
