This is beautiful. I hope that I can one day believe this.
"What do you get from loss?" asks Stephen Colbert, discussing grief with @andersoncooper. "You get awareness of other people's loss, which allows you to connect with that other person, which allows you to love more deeply and understand what it's like to be a human being."
In light of the performances of my Phillies, Eagles and Flyers, I am now focused on the 76ers.
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball! Gimme, gimme, gimme the ball, because I'm gonna DUNK IT!

We have 44 boys (U10) signed up to play recreational soccer this fall in our community, including our son.
I am the only person who volunteered to help coach, and now the season is in danger of getting cancelled for these kids.
This is how youth sports die.
Not because we don’t love our kids. Not because we don’t care. But because somewhere along the way, we decided that someone else would step up.
And when everyone waits for someone else…nobody does.
These kids don’t need professional coaches. They don’t need perfect coaches.
They just need a few adults willing to give them a couple hours a week.
If 44 kids want to play, surely we can find a few adults willing to help them play.
We spend thousands of dollars on our kids. We drive them to practices, buy the cleats, the uniforms, the equipment.
But when they need us to actually give something back—our time—we suddenly can’t.
That’s the part that should bother all of us.

Philadelphia has the correct sports priorities: psychotic obsession with the pro sports teams, casual “hey, good for them” support of the college teams made up of teenagers and twenty year olds.
It’s the south and midwest that somehow fucked it up and got those two reversed.

This high school in Oklahoma has one of the best first-day traditions for freshmen. The seniors line up outside as the freshmen arrive, and before heading inside for their first day of high school, every kid has to give their mom one last goodbye kiss

Most Legion teams don’t realize. If your Post Baseball team wins the State, the transportation is paid 100% by the AL to the Regional Tournament. SC will play Defending National champ Chesapeake Post 280 VA on Wednesday Aug 4th. This is a great match up.

American Legion Baseball is the answer. But you better hurry. Only 18 slots per team. A player gets mega reps in summer playing against stout competition. If your kid can play, there’s many integral ways they can get college attention. Just ask.

National District teams always get the side eye in VHSL baseball. Not today. National District will be representing the Occoquan Region this year. @EHSbaseballll vs Hayfield (again).

So it's not even like UMBC or Howard made the NCAA tournament.
What they earned by winning their conference tournament is the right to "play in" to the NCAA event and face a #1 seed two days later.
Hideous way to treat a conference champion. Shameful.
Exactly.
USA baseball needed the travel ball dad - he knows all the scenarios, has mapped them out extensively and told everyone who will listen (and those that will ignore him). He may be annoying, but he knows the tiebreaker rules, scenarios win or lose and who and when they will play next - in every scenario possible. He would have told DeRosa and every manager. Travel ball dads for the win!
