He has called the idea of terraforming other planets pure madness and urges us to redirect every resource toward saving our only true home—the one place that remains genuinely livable. 🚀
Michel Mayor, who helped discover the first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star, has been blunt: we will never migrate to those distant worlds. Even under the most optimistic scenario—a habitable planet just a few dozen light-years away—the journey would take hundreds of millions of days with today’s technology. Dreams of packing up and leaving once Earth becomes uninhabitable he dismisses as “completely crazy.”
In later comments he has been equally direct about Mars: terraforming it to produce the oxygen we need is impossible. “The worst place on Earth is paradise compared to Mars,” and no amount of climate change will reverse that reality. Earth, he insists, is our only ship. There is no Planet B waiting for us.
