You should think about donating to CKUA's fall fundraiser so they can continue to make nice shirts like this one, designed by Chad VanGaalen (ckua.com)

"Who needs a degree when you have ChatGPT!?" seems a great higher education marketing campaign.
Going to court to argue against my driving ticket because I ran a level 5 amber light and not a level 2 amber light

Maybe one day people will invest vast sums of money into building up people instead of machines and data centres that harm people.

"In August, the adjudication committee deliberated and awarded two submissions likely created by a billionaire-owned algorithm trained with unwarranted data skimming."
Opinion: Graduate research competition awards the use of AI “art” The U of A's Images of Research competition has started awarding AI art, but this shouldn't be a representation of U of A. thegatewayonline.ca/2026/09/…

Maybe someday we'll have apps that connect directly to our brains so that bodily functions can become premium features. Seems the natural progression of the modern imperial tech ethos.

Once musicians realize they can prompt things like "18ed2 x 13ed3 polysystemic serialism, 420 bpm, A𝄫𝄳 cappadocian. Build the rhythm around a nested 3:5:9 Crowderian paraddidle, but use occasional 11-limit JI approach notes for tension," more musicians will start using AI.
Once musicians realize they can prompt things like "140 BPM, F minor, 4-bar bass phrase. Build the rhythm around a half-time kick/snare groove. Keep F as the tonal anchor but use Ab, C, Eb and occasional chromatic approach notes for tension" more musicians will start using AI. The only reason why AI music sounds generic is because most people playing with these models don't know anything about music. It only makes those knowledgeable more capable.

Once I was in a meeting discussing new graphic designs due to a name update. It was a virtual meeting, and my backgrounds are always my current Album Cover, which I usually draw in psychedelic style. 1/3

After discussing some ideas about symbols we could use, my colleague says "can it have corn and a potato and an equation in it?" That album, to be fair, Quantum Harmonic Maize, did have songs titled "Corn and Potatoes," "Limited Integrals," and "Infinite Derivatives." 2/3

The only genuine way to learn is to make mistakes. The only way to avoid judgment is to not try. Optimal learning requires a special set of circumstances!

Hey everyone, it's okay to have been wrong, and change your mind. That how sensory information works. And science. Ideas are not immutable.

A short excerpt from Arctic: A Film About Ice. Here, we visited a beautiful river that carves the Torngat Mountains as it meets the Ocean. Just one of the adventures from a Students on Ice Arctic Expedition. Full video on YouTube (link below)!
