Websites are files on a computer. When you view a website, you are asking the computer to send you the files, then your browser shows them to you. 70% of the websites you see use PHP to make them interactive. So you can send things to the website too and it can respond. E.g. filling in a comment box and hitting 'post' adds the comment as a row to a spreadsheet. PHP has a flaw in its code that allows anyone to gain control of the computer that has the website on it. The organisation that provides PHP announced the vulnerability before a patch was available, meaning we're in a window where everyone knows about it (including baddies) but the good guys don't have an official solution. Some are just turning off their websites and waiting for the solution. Others are trying to fix it themselves. General chaos and lots of stressed techies across literally the entire planet because this affects the entire internet.

Nothing quite focuses the design mind on buildability than actually building things yourself. Installing PIR in a handcut roof diligently is the devils work.

The progress China has made in renewable energy just THIS YEAR makes the entire rest of the world look like it's standing still. I wrote in December that to call China the "world leader in renewable energy" was a colossal understatement. That’s even more true today. Thread 🧵

Can anyone throw some light on why all the thermal bridging details seem to have evaporated online unless they're provided by a manufacturer? @EnergySvgTrust Enhanced Construction Details - gone, @labcuk details - 'not usable for AD L 2021', I believe @AECBnet used to have some?

Has the standard for calculating psi values changed? Surely there isn't an army of designers paying for the same standard details to be calculated up and down the country? I'm hopeful for masonryonsite.com/rcd-resour… launching next week. Maybe I'm just bad at googling these things....

Anyone aware of why @labcuk are saying their Construction Details are not suitable for determining psi values under AD L 2021? labc.Co.uk/business/construc… Leaves us reliant on specific suppliers or custom psi calcs as I presume any reasoning also applies to Constructive Details etc

Death has become so normalised now, that it’s not even newsworthy anymore. No one talks about it. But over 1,000 more people are quietly dying each week than we would expect.

Amen to this. Absolutely crucial to design in as many passive means as possible to control solar gain. It takes a bit of education with clients but it’s crucial now.
Architects! Britain is a hot country now. There's people in the Highlands complaining about overheating and it's only going to get worse. So we need to stop all the unshaded glazing because it's making everyone too hot.

Working closely with our client Katrina has achieved a great outcome. I look forward to seeing this develop on site.
Really pleased to share the news that our proposed agricultural barn conversion in Wicken has been granted planning permission. The barn had existing permission for a Part Q conversion. We added the first floor and got permission to rebuild. #selfbuild #afmciat #architecture

Interesting @RIBAJ webinar today on setting fees. Reinforcing the basics of calculating resourcing costs, determining profit and considering risk. How many practices are openly discussing financial targets, project cost control etc during weekly meeting with the team?

I’ve started to give our team an insight and it’s been a really useful exercise on both sides of the discussion. As I hope to introduce this more into our team meetings I was wondering how other practices are involving their team with the financial health of the practice
