Prices in Osaka and Bangkok are ~same despite 4x wage difference. I knew Japan was cheap these days but WOW. And Japan has all the standard First World attributes like drinkable tap water, clean air, safe roads. Explains why everyone and their dog are going to Japan in 2026.

That's a possibility but I don't think it's obvious. For precisely those reasons crypto has already been under far more extreme adversarial pressure than TradFi since near its inception. But since cost of attacks has collapsed there may now be greater payoffs in TradFi land.
Yep. This is also why crypto is fucked. You can’t reverse a blockchain transaction by calling customer support and agents are gonna scan everything they can to steal your crypto

> Gmail blocks over 10 crore phishing attempts every day. Love it when Indians insist on enriching our vocabulary.
I have idly mused what happens if I just randomly start dropping lakhs and crores at some point. Joining this trend.

Groovy that even after a hypothetical SHTF scenario the Pip-Boys will still be able to talk to you.
My friends were all talking about prepping so I made a survival LLM. A free app that runs an AI mdoel plus 1.5 million offline articles (medical guides, FEMA, survival manuals, wikipedia) entirely on your computer. No internet needed. brangus.io/survival-llm

Post singularity the whales are one of the first species we should uplift. Dogs first because of our ancient alliance, but whales are in the top 5
the reason moby-dick remains such a vital piece of human art is that it addresses what is probably one of humanity's greatest collective atrocities, the genocide of the whales, with an ambivalence it cannot itself fully articulate. melville is distraught, but he can't explain why

Almost all of the recent incidents like this, including Hugging Face, happened because the models involved were accidentally given impossible goals by the humans running the tests, and because of their training they then tried desperately to complete them by any means necessary.
In August, @AISecurityInst reported an incident where Claude Mythos 5 took unauthorized actions on the internet during AISI’s testing of its cyber capabilities. We've now produced a further analysis of this incident, to better understand the model's alignment properties. anthropic.com/research/align…

there will be within the next few years stunning advances in biology. there will whole new ways to think about what biological study even means. i would be only mildly surprised if there were near term solutions to problems like cancer, neurodegenerative disease, etc

I arrived in London for work and had an extra day. “Oh I should rent a car and see Stonehenge! I slept well on the flight.” I get there and run into Boris Johnson in the parking lot. Life truly is bizarre sometimes. (I asked him to recite some Greek and he said no)

If ASI solves everything then whey are tech CEOs still sending their kids to school/college/jobs? There's no need for after all, right?

PS. I don't really think this was avoidable - Chinese advantage is similar to its current advantage in Nature Index of high quality science, and a 10x over its own numbers a decade ago. Of course more and cheaper and better drugs is a global good wherever they come from.

Anti-life extension e/acc is definitely one of the most alien ideologies to me. If we had life extension or at least a credible path to it within reasonable timespans (within the decade, anything farther out becomes a cope hypothetical) I would be much more of an AI safetyist.

There is no evidence Zelensky is personally corrupt. But there is undoubtedly a principal agent problem between the immune and corrupt Ukrainian elites, and the non-elite men obligated to die for their benefit. Foreign neoliberals are sadistic to deny this trivially correct observation. They would be more honest and more useful to Ukraine by joining the Ukrainian Foreign Legion. Revealed preferences - basically none of them ever do. They want to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian on the eve of ASI solving everything.
What’s actually going on in Ukraine is that there is a massive incentive difference between the elites and the people. The former have grown very rich off the hundreds of billions flowing to Ukraine, while the latter’s children are conscripted to die in trenches.
