🛑STOP Institutional Murders🛑

Can faculty members and the students from upper-castes give up all the networks and opportunities made available to them through caste and restart their careers and education?
If they were stripped of their social and cultural capital, most of them would NOT have ended up where they are today.
Is it NOT arrogance to ask students admitted under the reserved category to leave the institution?

In the IIT Bombay incident, there are allegations about the misuse of the Atrocities Act against Professor Suryanarayana Doolla. How do you see that?
Thorat: [Sahil Wakode’s] father said that his son had shared with him that this particular professor was intimidating him, was unpleasant with him, and possibly used caste language. The Atrocities Act applies if the victim belongs to a Scheduled Caste and the victimiser is high caste. Now this has not yet been proved. The matter is sub judice. It will all depend on CBI findings.
But having said this, I must say that after Solanki’s death by suicide [in 2023] at IIT Bombay, I was invited for a lecture and talked to the Director. The SC/ST cell in IIT Bombay has done most wonderful work with a couple of surveys on discrimination. And, believe me, it brings out the massive discrimination by high-caste students against Scheduled Caste students and, in some cases, by administrators and teachers also.
Discrimination is a problem not only in IIT Bombay but in many IITs. It will have an impact on Scheduled Caste students, there is no doubt about it. But in this specific case, we have to wait for the outcome of the report.
📢 Call to Stop Ravana Effigy Burning at the Dussehra Event in Alameda County, California, USA.
The burning of Ravana’s effigy is deeply offensive to many South Asian Indigenous and marginalized communities, for whom it is a symbol of exclusion, othering, toxic machismo and caste pride.
Our public celebrations should embrace diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect-not reinforce divisions.
We urge Alameda County and the Alameda County Agricultural Fair Association to stop Ravana effigy burning at the Dussehra event. Let’s work towards a celebration where everyone feels respected, included, and welcome.

This is a very important article. While the issue is not new, reporting on caste discrimination across the U.S. and the U.K. is new and essential.
Caste discrimination on campus is part of caste in everyday life. @akscsfba (AKSC) provides a supportive space for caste-oppressed people to come together, discuss their experiences.
AKSC emphasizes collective, organized action, as individual responses are often ineffective against the deeply rooted and frequently invisible caste networks in the U.S.
We have also launched a helpline akscusa.org/helpline/ to address caste discrimination in the U.S.
Dalit students studying abroad hope to escape oppressive caste hierarchies, only to find that the dominant-caste diaspora has exported its prejudice into classrooms and social settings across borders.

Election Commission of India, a constitutional body entrusted with protecting voting rights, has itself allegedly disenfranchised 13 crore people. This is unprecedented.
Indians in California demonstrated against ECI and its Election Commissioner, accusing them of stealing elections.

✊ Over a hundred people gathered in Fremont on September 26 for AKSC’s seventh annual conference, marking ten years of anti-caste organizing.
Under “Democracy & Freedom: Promise vs. Practice,” three panels connected culture, law and AI.
The culture panel examined Hindutva’s networks and how caste is defended as “culture.” The law panel explained how to challenge workplace caste discrimination. The AI panel discussed its impact on workers and corporate power.
🗣️ Dr. Aisha Wahab reflected on the SB 403 campaign. Salil Shetty called for anti-caste, anti-Hindutva and secular organizations to unite in defending democracy.
🎭 Parai music opened the program, and “Tik Tik” earned an encore. The skit “But Then, What Are You?” challenged everyday caste assumptions.
The tenth-year presentation looked back at AKSC’s readings, conferences, protests and cultural programs. The anniversary magazine was also launched.
The gathering called for collective action to defend dignity and build equality in our communities.
As AKSC marks its 10th anniversary, we welcome Congresswoman Dr. Aisha Wahab

The Cisco caste discrimination case in 2020 brought caste and its workings to the attention of a wider American public. As anti-caste communities organized, lawmakers began pursuing explicit legal protection against caste discrimination. Dr. Aisha Wahab spearheaded that effort in California.
As AKSC marks its 10th anniversary, we welcome Congresswoman Dr. Aisha Wahab @aishabbwahab as our keynote speaker!

Equal Voice Foundation(EVF), @AIDINDIA , @Hindus4HR , @indiacivilwatch and @akscsfba put together a warm and joyful celebration of Periyar’s birthday in Fremont, California. 🎉
The discussions and interactions showed why Periyar’s ideas remain globally relevant. 🌍
He fought inequality manifested through the denial of opportunity, exclusion, and discrimination, particularly caste and gender oppression. ✊ Indians in the United States are yet to free themselves from caste and patriarchy.
This program was a wonderful opportunity for like-minded people to gather and celebrate. 🤝
Happy Birthday Thanthai Periyar!
Close to 100 people gathered in Fremont, Ca, USA to celebrate Periyar's birth anniversary.
Periyar’s politics centered on liberation and self-respect. He theorised and organised against about how brahminism maintains both caste and patriarchy.
In September 1945, the Dravidar Kazhagam adopted the black shirt as its uniform. The first Black Shirt Conference was held in Madurai in May 1946. Periyar explained its meaning through the DK flag. Black represented ⬛️ the degradation imposed by brahminism. The red circle represented liberation 🔴.
Criticism of brahminism remains as relevant today as it was 100 years ago. It is now equally relevant in the United States.
Let us remember to always question, resist, and stand against all forms of inequality. Stand for self-respect and human dignity everywhere!

AKSC’s 7th Conference
Democracy : Promise vs Practice- How Law, Culture and AI Control the Narrative
📅 Saturday, Sept 26 | 🕔 9:00 AM–6:30 PM | 📍 Los Cerritos Community Center 3377 Alder Ave, Fremont, CA 94536

Our lives are regulated by legal and social codes. Legal codes, or laws, are written but often applied selectively. Social codes are unwritten but strictly observed. Legal and social codes interact to uphold systems of oppression, the status quo.
Understanding these challenges is essential to building an effective collective response. People secure their rights only through organized community, social, and political action.
AKSC’s 7th conference will examine these issues in depth through panels on law, culture, technology, and politics. AKSC firmly believes in organized collective action rather than individual, anarchic responses. This conference offers like-minded people an opportunity to come together, organize, and build a collective response.
We look forward to seeing you at our 7th conference.
🇮🇳 As India marks the 84th anniversary of the Quit India Movement and its 80th Independence Day, we must remember this shameful truth: former Prime Minister Vajpayee betrayed the freedom fighters of the Quit India Movement. 📜⚠️
Excerpt from the frontline
frontline.thehindu.com/the-n…
In 1989, a pamphlet titled "How patriotic is the BJP and its leader Atal Behari Vajpayee who betrayed the 'Quit India' movement led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942" was issued by D.S. Adel in New Delhi on behalf of the All India Freedom Fighters Organisation (AIFFO) ... The pamphlet went on to allege - without foundation, the Frontline investigation shows - that it "was because of Atal Behariji's statement that the Court sentenced Kakua to 5 years' rigorous imprisonment and the entire village was forced to pay a punitive fine of Rs. 10,000."
