The course, designed with the goal of creating a more inclusive and empowering environment for all children, was delivered to 29 Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners from Kenya's Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, and Isiolo counties.

ISIOLO STRENGTHENS EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT THROUGH MULTI-SECTORAL COORDINATION
The County Government of Isiolo has taken a significant step towards strengthening Early Childhood Development (ECD) by establishing an ECD Technical Working Group (TWG) — becoming the second Frontier County, after Mandera, to establish this coordination platform.
For @FCDCKenya , this marks an important shift towards coordinated, county-led ECD systems that bring together education, health, nutrition, child protection, responsive caregiving and social services.
The TWG brings together the @ChildServicesKE , @EduMinKenya , Teachers Service Commission, County Government departments, FCDC, AKU-IHD, APHRC, @EIDUapp Schools Kenya, Nawiri/ChildFund and other partners.
Key commitments
•Institutionalising the National Care Framework for ECD within county structures.
•Formalising the TWG through the County Executive Committee.
•Establishing quarterly coordination for joint planning, implementation, learning and accountability.
County Secretary Hon. Dade Boru reaffirmed that this is intended to be a lasting institutional structure:
“We are fully committed to building a strong and coordinated framework that guarantees every child access to quality early learning, health and nutrition services.”
FCDC CEO Dr. @iofarah emphasised the importance of collective action:
“It takes a village to educate a child. We therefore cannot afford to approach ECD from a single sector or institution.”
The FCDC ECD Baseline Survey and ECD Strategic Plan 2025–2030 provide Frontier Counties with the evidence and roadmap to strengthen ECD systems, policy and investment.
For partners and funders, county-level coordination creates a stronger pathway to align investment, reduce duplication and support sustainable systems.
We commend the County Government of @isioloCounty011 and all partners advancing this important agenda.
From coordination to institutionalisation, Frontier Counties are building ECD systems that give every child not only a good start, but the sustained support they need to thrive.

Did you know that an estimated 50 million children under 5 in low- and middle-income countries, live with a disability? Despite these significant numbers, many of them still lack access to the care, support and early learning opportunities they need to thrive.
Through our Disability-Inclusive ECD Course, we seek to address this challenge. The course empowers professionals to create inclusive learning environments and this week, 30 ECD practitioners from Kenya's Garissa, Tana River, Lamu & Isiolo counties are undertaking it.
Upon completion the participants who include county government officials and ECD teachers will be empowered to promote disability-inclusive ECD & gain insights to advocate for and implement inclusive ECD policies.
