🚨 NEW: The U.S. and Israel are preparing to resume attacks on Iran, possibly before Tuesday’s Israeli elections, according to senior Iranian officials and a U.S. official who spoke to Drop Site. The White House denies plans for U.S. strikes before the midterms.
What each told Drop Site:
🔸 Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in an exclusive written interview with Drop Site
➤ Iran retains the capacity to launch missiles and drones at U.S. assets and would expand its targets: “Cables, data centers and artificial intelligence facilities could also come within range. If the conflict begins again, we will have a broader plan.”
➤ On previously unused capabilities: “We did not deploy all our capabilities in the previous stages… and we are also prepared for the next stage.”
➤ On Gulf states whose energy infrastructure could help sustain the U.S. blockade: “Those governments should not assume they can participate in economic warfare against Iran without putting themselves at risk.”
➤ On diplomacy: Iran has presented seven new conditions through intermediaries. “Until those conditions are fulfilled, Iran will neither reopen the strait nor return to negotiations.”
🔸 A senior Iranian official
➤ Tehran’s intelligence assessment sees a high likelihood that large-scale bombing begins before the Israeli vote on October 27. “Trump has sat on Iran’s proposed package for ending the war, and negotiations have stalled.”
➤ Tehran believes Israel would strike first, “destroying Iran’s newly deployed air defense systems, in order to open the path for American bombers,” while the U.S. would target defenses along the Strait of Hormuz and potentially attempt to seize an Iranian island.
➤ Trump may launch a “token” attack on an underground nuclear site such as Pickaxe Mountain to claim victory.
➤ “Should another war against Iran begin… their casualty figures will be ten times higher.”
🔸 A U.S. official
➤ Military assets are moving rapidly into place ahead of an expected green light from Trump, with CENTCOM chief Gen. Bradley Cooper among those pushing for renewed attacks.
➤ “CENTCOM is putting all the pieces into place to renew major combat operations.”
➤ The official doubted strikes would come before the Israeli vote, but said: “We did start Epic Fury without all our assets in place.”
➤ “Trump has backed off major combat operations against Iran or the Houthis [Ansarallah] seven times since July… At the last minute, he calls it off.”
🔸 White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly
➤ “The United States will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterm elections.”

The USS Theodore Roosevelt and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit are heading to the region, bringing approximately 10,000 additional sailors and Marines. Two other U.S. aircraft carriers are already in the Arabian Sea.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, trailing in the polls, claimed Wednesday without evidence that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon and said his directive to the Israeli military, Mossad and security agencies is “to topple the regime in Iran.”

English Below

In solidarity with Matsaddash: 8 Arab news outlets launch joint newsroom to fact-check government “achievements conference”
Eight Egyptian and Arab news organizations today announce the launch of a six-day joint newsroom to fact-check claims made at the government’s “achievements conference,” in solidarity with our six colleagues at Matsaddash who have been detained since September 29 for their journalistic work.
The participating outlets are Saheeh Masr, Mada Masr and Al-Manassa from Egypt; Megaphone, Daraj and Sifr from Lebanon; Nawaat from Tunisia; and Al-Jumhuriya from Syria.
Under the slogan “Until they return, the fact-checking continues,” the joint newsroom will operate throughout the conference convened by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The conference, titled “Egypt Forum 2026,” runs from tomorrow, Monday, October 19, through Saturday, October 24.
“Six days for six journalists is an act of journalistic solidarity with our colleagues at Matsaddash,” the eight organizations said. “We will step in for them until they can return to their essential work of fact-checking and sharing information. This is the work they would have been doing with their customary professionalism and accuracy had the Egyptian authorities not arrested and detained them solely for practicing journalism and fulfilling its fundamental mission: holding those in power to account and keeping the public informed.”
Egyptian security forces raided the homes of six Matsaddash journalists on September 28 and 29: Mohamed Ashraf, Islam Barakat, Abdallah Qadry, Mohamed Mahmoud, Mohamed Adel and Omar Helal.
After five days of secret detention under the “terrorism” law, the six appeared before the Supreme State Security Prosecution. Some of them told prosecutors they had been subjected to torture and ill-treatment, including being blindfolded, having their hands bound behind their backs, being stripped, beaten and given electric shocks.
On October 13, prosecutors renewed their detention for a further 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 8083 of 2026 (Supreme State Security). They face charges of joining and financing a terrorist group, spreading false news and using social media accounts to circulate it.
The eight organizations call on newspapers, news websites and journalists across the Arab region to show solidarity by joining the campaign, covering and fact-checking the conference sessions and producing their own reporting, or sharing content from the campaign’s Facebook page and X account.

The participating outlets demand the immediate release of the detained journalists and an end to all forms of persecution against them. They also call on journalists’ unions and associations across the Arab region and worldwide to show solidarity and organize actions in their respective countries, and urge the Federation of Arab Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists to take immediate, substantive action in defense of the Matsaddash journalists.

Fox News and some Zionist sites are accusing me of having played a part in last Saturday's Global Palestine Alliance London rally. Yes, I did. Proudly. A tiny part. I wish I had played a larger one. But I was in Athens and could only send this video - whose text I past below in the interests of full disclosure. Read/watch and judge:
Greetings from Athens to the UK Alliance for Palestine. Kudos to all of you for continuing to mobilise against our generation’s greatest crime, our generation’s genocide in Gaza and the systematic state-backed ethnic cleansing and ruthless land seizures in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
As I have said before, if this were the 1930s, we would have only one moral duty: to defend Jewish people from the Nazis. Today, we again have only one moral duty: to defend Palestinian people from Israel.
Friends, I am not going to finish this message of solidarity by caressing your ears. I am going to do the opposite. At the risk of upsetting you, I am going to suggest that we stop congratulating ourselves. So far, we have failed. The genocide, the ethnic cleansing, the white-washing of this century’s greatest crime is continuing despite our efforts.
Our governments remain utterly complicit. Even when they do some windowdressing, like Andy Burnham sanctioning exports from the Occupied Territories (as if Israel will brand them as such!), they only do it to ENSURE that there is no trade and arms embargo against Israel to force Israel to cease and desist from its genocidal practices. What PM Burnham has done was to take the wind out of our sails by lulling the majority into thinking that there has been a change when there hasn’t been.
Look at the way the media are still at it. Copying the playbook that demonised and vilified Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party, for ‘insufficient support of Israel’s genocide’, they are applying the same playbook today against Zack Polanski and the Green Party.
Wherever we look – if we are honest – we see the evidence of our movement’s failure to dent Israel’s determination to complete its genocide and of our political and economic system’s to lend the Apartheid state a hand.
I know: Many of you are tired, after years of campaigning often at high personal cost. But now is not the time to feel the fatigue. Now is the time to do more. To do better. To end genocide, ethnic cleansing and land seizures across Palestine. To make it possible to imagine – not just as a slogan – a Palestine free of Apartheid.
