So proud of my contribution to this film as a co-writer. An insightful documentary about what it means to be a teenage girl who dreams of building rockets as she juggles school, ambition, friends and faith. ROCKET GIRL premieres 8 NOV 2025 at @TallinnBNFF 🚀#FilmFestival #docs

Q10. I’m not very good with advice but it would probably be to find some writing friends. I have a few key critique partners that I rely on to help me, commiserate with me and celebrate with me. It would be very lonely and not half as much fun without them. #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

A9. I’m having a go at writing funny middle grade. Not sure if anyone else is finding it funny, but I’m making myself laugh. #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

A8. I can’t write a thing without my blood candle and badger skull ink well… Joking😄. I can write anywhere that’s quiet with a comfy chair. #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

A7. I think I’m quicker and more focused than I used to be. I save all the worrying until after the story is on the page. At that point, I agonise over whether anyone will actually want to read it. #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate
7, Has your approach to writing changed at all as you’ve written more books? @alatkinson #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

A6. Definitely. There's something creepy about the temporary, here today and gone tomorrow nature of them and then there are the acts themselves. Everywhere you look there’s danger and mystery – from the acrobats down to the clowns. What’s really behind the make-up and costumes? #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate
6, Circuses seem to be such perfect backdrops for horror and spooky writing, did you find writing about one scary? @alatkinson #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

A5. Thank you for saying that. I’m all for a spooky setting and can think of nothing nicer than a walk through a graveyard. #ukteenchat #spooksmithsinvestigate

I have to admit researching the Necropolis Railway also took up a lot of time. Not that much made it into the books but I loved immersing myself in all the details right down to the first, second and third class tickets for the dead
