Unfortunate that the summary page for the Ofsted review into English states: "It is concerning that 3 in 10 pupils in 2019 did not gain even a ‘standard pass’ in English language at GCSE." Do they not understand how grades are awarded...?
A brilliant effort. We have a wondeful inclusion team.
Lovely piece in the @suttonguardian about OPH's support for families at this difficult time for many. We are a setting up another drop off zone for further donations on Tues 5th May between 1-3 pm. Huge thanks to all for their fantastic generosity so far: yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news…
Would love to talk to any Transition Leads to share ideas as to how schools are going to manage the transition from Y6 to Y7 this year #secondarytransition #transition
Great day @JackHuntSchool working with the @JHS_Y7 team to develop their project based learning curriculum. Some excellent project ideas and always good to revisit the essential elements of PBL to ensure it is rigourous and authentic #pbl #REALprojects
Spoke to a sixth former @school21_uk today who said “we have to think beyond just the academic. Yes, grades are important but it is your skills, experience and ability to present yourself which make you stand out”. Couldn’t agree more. Great day with @ukEdge
Looking forward to learning more about what constitutes @_bigeducation today @school21_uk with @ukEdge.
Thank you to Sarah from @PenguinUKBooks who came in to talk to our Y7 students about her role as an Illustrated Book Designer. Students asked wonderful questions and learnt lots about the world of design and publishing which they will apply to their project #realworldlearning
Y7 are working on their first project where they will write and publish an A-Z guide to the school. Copies will be given to visitors and feeder primary schools. Not only are we building literacy skills but students are working on a real project #workthatmatters #PBL #literacy
“Children can transcend their destinies if schools provide the kind of experience which will develop their use of language for self-expression, reasoning, reflection and self-regulation” - Neil Mercer
A great day with @voice21oracy exploring the importance of oracy and the need for creating a dialogic classroom. We need to ensure our students understand they have a voice that matters #oracy #dialogic #studentvoice
Using what I have learnt from working with wonderful people over the last 8 years I have designed our new project based Y7 curriculum. A curriculum which aims to develop communication, confidence, character values and community engagement whilst being centered on relationships.

Some of the fantastic Y7 work which was on display tonight at the 'Waste Not Want Not' Exhibition @SPH_EFC
Very proud of my Year 7 students today.
Thank you to everyone who came to support the Y7 Art and Fashion Exhibition @SPHHeads this evening. Students have worked really hard on upcyling items in order to raise awareness of the issues surrounding textile and household waste.
Final panel discussion of the day: What do the schools of the future look like?
In short, we need a curriculum which is free from conformity and uniformity, leagues tables to be abolished and schools to be responsive to the needs of their students and not government #GOE2019
‘You are the only second chance for some children to have a rich language experience. If these children are not getting it in school, they are not getting it’ - Neil Mercer #GOE2019

“All children, before they leave school, should have worked on, and won, a campaign that has made their lives and the lives of others better” #GOE2019 @CitizensUK
Wonderful day at the Great Oracy Exhibition with @school21_uk and @voice21oracy. Powerful discussions about the importance of the spoken word to create a more just and democratic society. Highlight of the day was meeting and listening to @MichaelRosenYes speak #goe2019
