I don’t trust people who have this incessant need to be seen as good. It becomes more important than their willingness to examine what they’ve done. So they’ll always try to defend it. Sometimes tolerate being the person who was wrong.

#MCM: Celebrating Nyende Alex (@AlenzyArtss ), aka Grandmaster! 📷 A well-deserved win for our Content Creation and Communications Lead, Alenzy Arts , won at the 15th Uganda Press Photo Awards (@UPPAward ) 2026 in the Photojournalism category for his documentary project, “WHERE DO THEY GO?” Through his lens, Alex documents the human cost of the May 28 demolitions in Kawaala, Kampala, where families were displaced during an operation to restore sections of the Lubigi Wetland. At the heart of his work is a question that demands our attention: Where do people go when they lose their homes? His project reminds us that photography is more than capturing moments. It is about telling stories that matter, making invisible realities visible, and giving people a reason to pause and reflect. We celebrate Alex for this recognition and extend our appreciation to the FOTEA , @EUinUG , @FujifilmX_US and the @FESonline for supporting platforms that amplify powerful visual storytelling. Grandmaster, we celebrate you. Keep telling the stories that need to be told. Congratulations! 📷 #FacesUp #UPPA2026 #Photojournalism #StoriesThatMatter

In Kyotera District, southern Uganda, there's a church held up by columns of light. Our Lady of Victoria Monastery was built for a growing community of Trappist monks, and almost all of it is fired clay brick. The bricks were fired with coffee husks, an agricultural waste, so even the fuel came from the farms around it. Four buildings, about 2,000 square metres, in one material. The brick is the structure and the finish. There is no plaster and no ornament. The perforated brick screens carry the walkway roofs and ventilate the rooms at the same time. Plinths sit on stacked clay tile strips so water doesn't sit against the walls on a site that floods. The church's brick arches and buttresses carry the load, with glass bottles set into the arches to let sunlight in. Every technique here is masonry: arches, a vault, buttresses, screens. A mason who learns one on this site can use it on the next one. This is a template, and it can be built in any region with clay and a kiln. 📍 Kijonjo, Kyotera District, Uganda 🇺🇬

I want to salute the memory of King Oyo for the wonderful work he did. I was very sad because, a day after he was buried, I was going through my documents and found a letter he had written to me on 15th June 2026, thanking me for a number of things, including the appointment of ministers from Tooro. I also congratulate His Highness Nyabongo. I have been watching him on the news and he is a good newsreader. I am sure he will do a good job.
