Fast-forward to around 2023, one of his brother’s friends came visiting from the United States, and my friend was asked to take him around Lagos. To the man’s surprise, my friend didn’t even have a car. He was shocked, considering how financially successful his elder brother was in the US. The man immediately called his friend to yab him. How could someone who does so much for other people have a younger brother who couldn’t even afford a car of his own? A few months after the man returned to the US, my friend’s relationship with his elder brother suddenly started improving again. Then one day, 2023 to be precise, a colleague of my friend was relocating abroad and decided to sell his car. My friend reached out to his elder brother about it, and all his brother asked was, “How much do you have?” He didn’t even have up to 30% of the asking price, but his brother completed the money for him. That was how my friend got his first car. As if that wasn’t enough, his brother gave him a stern warning afterwards: “If you like, call XXXX and tell her I bought you a car. That will be the end of everything between us.” And that was when everything began to make sense.
