I'm so excited to share that pre-orders for my first book, _Becoming Neighbors: The Common Good Made Local_ are now available!
At the heart of this book is a simple but critical question: How will we live?
I believe the answer for Christians is clear: We live as neighbors.
What an honor to review Rachel Wagner's timely book _Cowboy Apocalypse: Religion and the Myth of the Vigilante Messiah_ for @ChristianCent
The Vigilante Messiah "performs radical salvation with a gun. He doesn't save the world. He saves his world."

I’ll share more as pre-orders become available at more online retailers. It would be the greatest support and encouragement if you pre-ordered a copy online or through a small bookstore, or requested a copy at your local library!

It’s finally here! What a LABOR of love. Glad to see it in person. #researchlife
“These days I am impatient with poetry that is not steeped in, marred and transfigured by, the world.“
“What do you think? Which of the three became a neighbor to the man attacked by robbers?”
“The one who treated him kindly,” the religion scholar responded.
Jesus said, “Go and do the same.”
— Luke 10:36-37 (The Message)
Why are Christians on my timeline more eager to cite lines of the Constitution that justify deporting undocumented immigrants than Bible verses instructing us to love and serve them?
This is why the language we use matters.
When we dehumanize undocumented immigrants by reducing them to their legal status, it isn’t a far stretch to pass legislation that makes them criminals.
The consequences are devastating.

What do we do when the reality of death feels so near?
We plant dates.

Available now! 🎉 In Knock at the Sky, @LizCharlotteG weaves together encounters with the natural world, Jewish midrash, and art criticism, making Sunday school stories feel strange and offering a fresh vision for reading Scripture after #deconstruction. loom.ly/iVRy3e4

We are excited to share the announcement of our publishing partnership with @matthewkaemingk and @shadihamid! Their book will argue that secularization has harmed democratic norms and institutions and that if democracy is going to survive and prosper, America needs more religion and not less. When I think of John the Baptist, I picture his head on a platter.
John teaches us something important about peace: it does not spontaneously occur.

I overheard someone talk about how books need to "brew" on your desk after you buy them, and I've never felt more understood.
May we learn that living things do not live just for us—that they live for themselves and for you; and that they love the sweetness of life as much as we do; and serve you, in their place, better than we do in ours.

For all those traveling home this week:
In my experience over the past decade, I have found a few helpful paths for navigating the tension and disagreements that surround holiday gatherings:
Step 1: Don’t treat every conversation as an argument to win
