It has taken almost 7 years to get the first bit of individual accountability for Aliona despite this being ā€œserious misconductā€ and yet somehow, we are one of the ā€œlucky onesā€ to have got this far - so many others who are the same also deserve this. nmc.org.uk/globalassets/site…

This Baby Loss Awareness Week and always, we remember every baby who has died and stand with every family living with loss šŸ¤ It has been a hugely significant year for maternity - from the Ockenden and Amos reports published, to the Thirlwall Inquiry, progress towards a National Maternity Commissioner, and new reviews beginning in Leeds and Sussex. Through all of this, lived experience must be at the heart of change. šŸ“¢ Next week, a debate on Baby Loss will be held in the House of Commons. Email your MP and ask them to take part on 12th Oct: writetothem.com/ We owe it to every baby lost and every family left grieving to listen, learn and make maternity care safer.

A year ago today, families wrote to the Lord Chancellor asking that the then 6½-year-old duty to report was completed. A year later… we have only just secured a meeting. Another year’s worth of stillborn babies denied justice.
Bereaved families have demanded the Government act on ā€œperverseā€ lack of scrutiny of stillbirths. They want their childrens deaths subject to independent, coronial oversight, and explain there is a legal duty on ministers to act. Link in next post…

ā€œIt’s essential for him to take an interest in maternity and women’s health to show it is serious, that he recognises ours and our children’s lives do matter - show it is a national scandal.ā€ @andyburnham @10DowningStreet needs to finally show a commitment to improving services.

This applies to Leeds and right across the country. ā€œIt is scandalous that the safety of expectant mothers and new born children has been compromised. They are the most vulnerable in society and as such the NHS should not be putting them in harm’s way.ā€ yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opi…

Still feels surreal that our review is happening. Meeting so many new families today reminded me exactly why this is needed. I am so grateful to the brilliant families I have met along the way, in particular @FionaWinserRamm, @alionasdad, @ambikmatharoo and Mandip. Our girls🩷
Bereaved families are currently attending the first meeting ahead of a review taking place into ā€œrepeated failuresā€ at maternity units in Leeds. The inquiry is being led by Donna Ockenden who led a similar review in Nottingham.

Similarly, I am so disappointed by the way myself and Amarjit were spoken to. It was incredibly patronising and aggressive, and absolutely not trauma informed.
As bereaved mother to Asees & almost having died myself, the opportunity to ask questions directly to Baronness Amos today re her report was key. However, to be patronised by her response I was not. Do better. Not at all trauma-informed @DHSCgovuk @NHSEngland @jamesmurray_ldn
