I spent many hours last week observing the practice of medicine while sitting at my mom’s hospital bedside and was reminded of some important communication pearls. Some musings… 🧵 1/n

All. The. Time.
Almost every week I meet a patient moving from hospital to nursing home w/ plans to pursue low benefit rehab Not because of personal choice Because Medicare will cover their nursing home expenses if they do rehab but not if they elect hospice Can we please do better?

Self-care should be a priority in healthcare, so today we went to park and enjoyed a moment of child play in the middle of the day. #utgeripal

Terrible idea. Harm coming. Patient safety should be priority. Finanancial toxicity is a huge concern.
TLDR: - #Aducanumab is too expensive ($56,000/yr) - fear of ALZ >>> cost = emphasize healthcare disparities - resources of the system will get overwhelmed - trust in the FDA is at stake - disapproval would have been the correct decision statnews.com/2021/06/08/aduc…

As a woman physician I choose to see the joy in practicing medicine more than the darkness in the mysoginy of our society.

Opening at 100% and removing the mask mandate = ultimate voter suppression since COVID disproportionately affects minorities @GovAbbott

We are about to see a covid spike in Texas. Let people freeze to death one week and then let them spread disease the next. @GovAbbott
