Two years after Hurricane Helene ripped through much of the Southeast, many of the communities affected by that storm are still recovering.
A new project has chronicled their journey, using what might seem like an unlikely medium: a graphic novel.
William Brangham (@WmBrangham) discussed “Islands in the Sky: A People’s History of Hurricane Helene” with Andrew Aydin for our arts and culture series, CANVAS.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, no one asked who you voted for, people only asked how they could help. Maybe the lessons of the storm can become a guide for us all.

Trails remain closed, bridges are still missing and businesses continue to feel the effects as some of WNC’s greatest assets face the long recovery from Tropical Storm Helene.

Despite the horrors of the flooding, the landslides, the downed trees and power lines, something special happened in the aftermath--people connected and cared for one another in a way all too often missing in our society today.

Just listened to this state propaganda. No matter how hard you try to force your religion (worship of gov't) onto the people it will NEVER take. Also, no matter how hard you try to get the truth scrubbed off the internet the majority who are now aware of the truth won't be duped.

At Comic Con on a panel I got a question about the state of book bans in America. I don’t believe book bans are the biggest problem right now and the term itself is outdated. Here’s why.

I spent more than 13 years on John Lewis’ congressional staff and working on his campaigns. But my best memories will always be of working as his coauthor and collaborator. As we celebrate his memory, here are some of the memories I hold most closely.

John Lewis left us a road map to continue his work to redeem the soul of America. We cannot forget his unique and special way of being.
