I love this so much. Tony Mowbray gets Rovers and what heβs bringing out of the players is brilliant to see. Long may it continue πΉ

As @resfoundation are pointing out today the gap between private rents and the Local Housing Allowance (which is how Housing Benefit is calculated) is now at a record highβ¦

Sobering from @jrf_uk and those with the least are hurt the hardest. Bringing back hope means a society where everyone can afford a secure home and the essentials of life. Government needs to act in upcoming budget to change this path.

You can't bring down spending on welfare, without tackling the factors that are driving it. You need to invest in good jobs, transport, and lifting people out of poverty.

New government data confirms that the temporary accommodation bill is spiralling - impact on local councils at a time when they already face huge financial pressure is enormous...
Councils in England spent a total of Β£2.93 billion on temporary accommodation to accommodate households who are homeless between April 2025 and March 2026. This is an 88 per cent increase in five years!!

We *have* to get Local Housing Allowance permanently linked to rents if weβre to stop this escalating even more.
And try cautious rent controls to help manage public spending.

We are blessed to have the manager we have and many of the players that we haveβ¦. But our recruitment is dire. It is consistently dire. Predictably dire. Those responsible no longer deserve the benefit of the doubt, they must resign or be sacked.
Rovers end the window with three signings. A talented but raw winger, an experienced 34YO free agent and a project RB.
They finished 20th last season. Four home wins, 42 goals scored. Cronic injuries.
Supporters and Tony Mowbray have every right to feel let down.

Thoughtful from @FraserNelson . Reducing the cost of working age social security is possible & positive if we tackle drivers: more affordable homes, more people into good jobs, faster access to health care. But these take upfront investment & cost saving will come gradually.
Reform has today released plans to cut Β£50bn from welfare - with PIP cuts that seem aimed at their own target voters.
Is this doable? Credible? Politically deliverable?

This is a heart breaking read, but it is a vital one. Parent carers don't receive the support they need in a system that is broken.
βBut it is possible to love your children and be pushed to the point of suicide. Love does not mitigate the overwhelming pressure of caring for a disabled child in a broken system.β
Made me cry. The desperate need for respite.

Strong public support for rent controls and evidence shows they work.
Our analysis of landlord profits with @jrf_uk shows that well-planned rent controls are a desirable, viable response to the private sector housing crisis
