Yes, a Narrow-bordered bee-hawk moth in my garden!! It's been here for ages today and the buzz of its wings is just incredible! @savebutterflies
Just two pics from today's @savebutterflies Scottish Autumn Gathering in Perth. Moths at lunchtime always a real highlight, and a sold-out venue with 120 people in attendance. Thanks to @NatureScot for funding!

Two butterfly species have made dramatic appearances in Scotland this summer in a suspected response to climate change 🦋📍
These new records are part of a wider picture of butterflies and moths moving north across the UK.

Wee blog I wrote about @savebutterflies work in Highland Perthshire. Of course I had to use a Pearl-bordered Fritillary pic!

Raising the alarm: Rannoch Brindled Beauty moths are out in Perthshire! This one looks fresh from the pupa and may be drying his new wings, we don't usually get to see them like this so it was a nice treat.

If you enjoyed the stunning views of Edinburgh from Arthur’s Seat on @NetflixUK's One Day, you might like to know that it’s a great place to see a rare butterfly called the Grayling 🦋⛰️

Greenock, Scotland. Remember none of this is a major problem according to our politicians. We’ll all pretend it’s fine despite the fact it’s just the beginning - and governments plan to make it worse for another 30 years
What a day! Nearly 70 people braved atrocious weather to come to the @savebutterflies Scottish autumn gathering and spend a day talking about butterflies + moths and how we can help them. Photos of the Death's-head hawk-moth, our moth trap gazebo, and @RedChestnut336 speaking
Thanks to @AshWhiffin , @kattyponder , @scorpion_nv , @DJHbutterflies , @Tracytrees for speaking, and wonderful @Apithanny for chairing the day.
Spooky season is upon us! Beautiful Canary-shouldered thorn moth in the trap, with Tawny Owl calling from the field next door and stags roaring on the hills.

Thank you all for your efforts this year. Make sure all your lovely data goes to good use. Please submit by the deadline of **31st October**
Proud to have been part of the team that tracked these Northern Brown Argus down, but all credit due to an extremely dedicated volunteer who scoured the hillside at Blairlogie for two years looking for their eggs after finding them in her garden @savebutterflies

As we approach the time of year where we instinctively want to cut everything back for the sake of “tidiness,” I implore that you don’t! Our hedgerows in particular are about to come alive with #wildlife! These Ivy flowers are about to provide for our later emerging insects, and our hedgerows are preparing a larder for our autumn birds & mammals. Please people, leave your hedges until February before you cut them back & before birds start to nest 🙏👍💚 Thank you!

It was all happening in the local culvert at lunchtime.
57 Old Lady gathered on the ceiling. Two optimistically wafting pheromones about, despite the early hour.
Also newly arrived were 2 Peacock and 2 Herald. My first #HibernatingHeralds of the season! 🥳
Moth trap help! I set the trap and tested that it was working by putting my hand over the sensor and the light turned on no problem. I then exposed the sensor to light to turn it off, but decided to test it again after and it won't turn on now. This happens a lot! Any guidance?
