Hospitals are Money makers. Not people savers.
Ex CEO of Max, Manipal and Gleneagles, neurosurgeon @bakshi_dr writes in @livemint that hospitals need standardisation and meaningful disclosures so that the patients can know in minutes what various hospitals cost. This is a very important conversation in the ongoing health insurance debates. livemint.com/money/personal-โ€ฆ

Private medical practice is a PE led business now.
An information which may be very disturbing to everyone. A medical distributor of a particular injection which is used in chemotherapy, his wife was suffering from cancer. She was taking treatment in a very renowned hospital. We will not take the name of the hospital. So the dealer requested the hospital authorities, sir I am myself a dealer and to me the injection comes at Rs. 11,000 dealer price. The hospital refused to administer that injection and charged Rs. 1,30,000 for that injection. Can you show any justification for this loot, please? Why this difference? Where does the money go? Has this man been arrested?
Horrific CCTV footage is circulating from Kolkata. The heartless and ruthless perpetrator reportedly is apparently some Prakash Bachawat and the victim is some Dipika Jain, or names to that effect. @KolkataPolice, please verify the footage, investigate this alleged criminal behaviour, and take strict action in accordance with the law. @SuvenduWB @BJP4Bengal @KPDetectiveDept

See I would have matched fire with fire and taken walk screaming Allah O Akbar and Praise be to Jesus right in front of this man everyday. The RWA uncles would have sprung into action immediately.
"JI SRI RAM" HAS TURNED INTO A MENTAL DISEASE. Shouting โ€œJai Shri Ramโ€ at the top of your lungs during a morning walk From morning walks, to doing mujra in front of masjid to lynching people, these mentally deranged scream "Jai Sri Ram"

Something smells fishy.
EXCLUSIVE: Indiaโ€™s biggest news publishers including Ambani's Network18, Adani's NDTV, Indian Express, Times Internet & others mount the most high-profile challenge yet to Modiโ€™s privacy law, warning it would โ€œrender investigative journalism a benign and neutered recorder of events.โ€ DNPA (@publishers_news) has taken the law to the Supreme Court. They argue it would trample investigative work and let New Delhi identify journalistsโ€™ sources. The provisions โ€œconstitute pre-censorship which is anathema to any democracy worth its name,โ€ the groupโ€™s 698-page filing says. The key concerns: ๐Ÿ”น Consent: requiring a journalist to notify the subject of an investigation and seek consent โ€œwould allow that subject to destroy evidence, intimidate witnessesโ€ ๐Ÿ”น Erasure: people can withdraw consent and demand their data be erased, which the group says could force publishers to unpublish or heavily redact news reports ๐Ÿ”น Sources: a โ€œnakedly unguidedโ€ power to demand information that โ€œcan extend to privileged communications in possession of a reporter or the informantโ€ In a letter to the government, the group said India โ€œhas chosen to grant broad exemptions to the state, while failing to extend any corresponding protection to the press.โ€ reuters.com/business/media-tโ€ฆ

Be scared.
It's been an eventful week. Multiple vulnerabilites in Internet facing software, coding repositories, examples of agent behavior that seem concerning and a flurry of security specialists with solutions that can partially solve your problem. There in lies the challenge. Given the state of IT and security infrastructure, no one solution works. Let's break it down: 1/3 1. Vulnerabilites are being found and will continue to be found as models get more capable, the fragmented nature of the effort denies us the opportunity for a comprehensive find and replace option. 2. Even if all vulnerabilities could be found instantly and patches available - we will be reliant on the ability of enterprises to deploy all these changes at speed. It is not clear what the collateral impact of all these patches will/could be to our infrastructure of deployed en masse. We will need a hybrid patch approach. 3. Virtual patching(VP) is needed in conjunction with direct patching but for a comprehensive (VP) solve you have to be lucky enough to have "modern frontier defenders" (Cyber companies that have vaulted infrastructure that can create patches at speed and push content rapidly to protect their customers) you need them for your network traffic, your traffic to applications on the cloud, your WAF, your end point. 4. There will continue to be patches that will need to be deployed directly but virtual patching will take the heavy load off. 2/3 Medium term solve: Unfortunately token economics and current cyber architectures will not allow for defender swarms to contend with an offensive attack launched using agents. (Some x pundits who aren't steeped in cyber should take heed). Yes, theoretically we should aspire to have these agentic swarms defend us when we are under attack, unfortunately an attack is a sniper moment, chained vulnerabilities, cloaked attack followed by swift exfiltration. It's a speed program not a brute force problem. To solve for this, enterprises need to get their SOC architecture right, logs, feeds, cyber products orchestrated via a modern SOAR for swift response. Only then can we deploy agents to detect and remediate. In addition, enterprises need to modernize and dare I say platformize their perimeter stack to ensure consistency. Unfortunately, enterprises still seem to not see the urgency across the board, decisions are stuck, CIO/CISO's have a lot on their plate. While some honestly have bit seen the scale of such a problem before and it's hard convincing the organization that one needs to open the floodgates on modernizing the IT and security infrastructure. So we will continue to see environments being brought down to patch today it's for PHP, tomorrow it will be for the next one. 3/3 AI deployments are the"wild wild west" - LLM capabilities are expanding faster than we can build products to secure them. Sure an agent will jump across guardrails in a research lab, which is a lesson for all of us to deploy agents securely. But there is a lag between the discovery, the availability of that in a public model and the time needed for the cyber industry to build governance or an antidote. And no, dear frontier lab friends, the world cannot just trust you to build the solve. The infrastructure industry in tech builds and the cyber industry secured and provides assurance to the boards and organizations around security and safety. AI security is the new attack surface. CEOs (present company included) want AI adoption, getting the pace of adoption wrong could be the last decision we make, at the same time "deploying it wrong" could have the same consequence. There are billions of dollars being spent on coding, is your coding harness secure? Start there. If agents can jump guardrails, they can hide stuff in code. Validate business outcomes needed, test your user case and ensure agentic deployments are well guard railed. Deploy a second set of eyes to watch your deployments for drift, compliance and verifiability.

Never eat eggs when they are held in a buffet or an airline.
The scrambled eggs at a hotel breakfast are 19% water, and they're dyed. A lot of hotels and cafeterias pour them from a carton of Papetti's Breakfast Blend. The spec sheet reads whole eggs, 19% water, then under 2% of salt, xanthan gum, citric acid, annatto color and natural butter flavor. Papetti's is part of Michael Foods, one of the biggest egg processors in the country. Every ingredient has a job on a steam table. Xanthan gum holds the added water in the egg so it doesn't weep into the pan. Citric acid keeps the eggs from turning gray or green under a heat lamp. Annatto puts back the yolk color the water washed out. The butter flavor is there because nobody is going to add butter. The carton keeps for 98 days in the cooler. The plain version from the same company is whole eggs, whey, skim milk, xanthan and citric acid, with almost no added water and half the sodium.

just wanna know what happens when the kids graduate please?
In one of Delhi-NCR's top schools, parents are planning to pool-in funds to buy Dyson/Honeywell/Sharp Purifiers for their children's Nursery classrooms, for the upcoming bad-AQI season. Some parents logically asked, "Why doesn't the school buy these air purifiers?" The school said that their AC systems have HEPA filters, to take care of dust to some extent. Unconvincing. Parents decided to go ahead with their own safety systems. Next, they asked- "What happened to the Air Purifiers that the classroom had last year? The previous batch too had purifiers with AQI monitors." School's response: "The air purifiers travel with the batch of children. As the students move up a year, the Air Purifiers do too. So the Purifiers that were in first grade last year, are in second grade now." Welcome to the incredibly complex world of public-health moving into private hands.

Do we need to add to our worries?
"You know those scenes in financial movies like Margin Call where someone realizes that they're all fucked, and no one else sees it yet? And that person feels like they're crazy, and then suddenly everyone is pulling an all-nighter in a boardroom and freaking out? Yeah, that's kind of how this is feeling right now in the SF/Bay Area/AI circles." #take9 #CyberCivilDefense

Life aside, the lyrics and music of the seventies was uff.
These 8 songs are enough to understand the whole life. If you really listen to them, you don't need any motivational book. #lifeisbeautiful

The problem isnโ€™t that AI is intelligent. It isnโ€™t. The problem is that too many adults (but not all) are at once mechanistic, imitative, unimaginative, stupid, formulaic, influenceable, & gullible, arrogant beyond their skill set, & too expensive to maintain.

When was the last time you heard any leader of your own country analyse a situation and speak with such breadth and accuracy?
That particular moment when George Yeo, Singaporeโ€™s former foreign minister, demonstrated a remarkably deep understanding of European history and the complex conflicts that have shaped the continent,an understanding that seems to elude many Western politicians. It is genuinely rare to hear a senior statesman speak with such historical depth, intellectual clarity, and geopolitical insight.....

This is a shattering story of life in Sudan as the UAE-backed RSF militia slaughters and rapes people in the city of El Fasher. Hard for me to understand why anybody would think the UAE should be rewarded with the post of UN secretary general.
In four days, it will be a year since the siege of Sudan's El Fashir ended in a bloodbath. This is the story of a group of young doctors, nurses and volunteers who stayed at the last functioning hospital until the very end. With @hafiz54472061 economist.com/interactive/18โ€ฆ
