We are looking for a post doc to work on a new and exciting project on plant N6-methyladenosine-binding proteins.
Please spread the word!

Excited to share our preprint on a function of the Trp-binding pockets of plant ARGONAUTE1 — they facilitate siRNA amplification through GWs in SGS3!
So many years of work, so many fantastic people involved — a privilege to work with them all!

A good explanation for the puzzling enrichment of the Pumilio Response Element-like motif (URUAY) around m6A sites in plants:
PUMILIOs and m6A-binding YTHDF proteins co-target many mRNAs to regulate plant growth!

The Argonautes 2025 are in their infancy but moving ahead! The organizers (@farmgirlphd, @DinaGrohmann, @MeisterLab + me) started to shape the program and the meeting website. Mark your calendars, spread the word: 27.-30.8.2025 @imgprague in Prague, Czechia.
Our paper on how the N-coil structural switch of eukaryotic Argonaute proteins allows specific recognition of plant and human Argonaute in the RNA-free state is now out in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology. What a nice start of 2025! nature.com/articles/s41594-0…
Our review on the status of our understanding of the m6A-YTH regulatory system in plants is just out today! sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Why the octopus?
Some of you asked this during the conference. Here’s the story: The null Arabidopsis ago1 mutant looks like a little squid. That’s why in 1998, Bohmert et al. named the gene after Argonauta argo, the shell octopus on Laura’s thesis cover.

YTHDF proteins need a little help from a friend to read m6A! Check out our new pre-print, a result of a really great collaborative effort! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Our new pre-print on roles of terminal uridyl transferases in secondary siRNA formation is just out now. The terminal nucleotidyl transferases might just be as important as RdRPs and Dicers for siRNA amplification! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
I am happy to announce that with the generous support of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, we are hosting The Argonautes meeting in Copenhagen on August 21-24 2024. Please spread the word!
Our first paper on RNAi-independent functions of DCL2 is now out in The Plant Cell! A rare case where the phenotypic strength is proportional to enzyme levels over a >20-fold range! "Seeing is believing, but measuring is knowing..." :-) academic.oup.com/plcell/adva…
Three different papers compressed into one on the no longer quite so enigmatic glycosylated queuosines in the anticodon loop of tRNA-Tyr and tRNA-Asp! cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…
