So they tried something different. Out with lectures. In with hands on learning. Students built Rainforest in a Box models to simulate deforestation. They planted vegetable gardens. They performed drama about conservation for their communities.

How does Rainforest in a Box work? Pupils build two miniature landscapes. One forested. One deforested. Then they pour water through a colander to simulate rainfall. They watch the bare soil wash away. They see erosion happen in real time.

Gorillas are forest gardeners, complex social beings and close relatives of ours, sharing about 98 to 99% of our DNA. But poaching, habitat loss, mining, agriculture and disease continue to threaten them. #WorldGorillaDay #GreatApes #GorillaConservation

6.7 million hectares of primary #rainforest gone in 2024. Nearly the size of Panama. Worst year in two decades. That is 18 football fields lost every minute. DRC & Republic of Congo just recorded their highest ever forest loss, #ape habitat included. ➡️ bit.ly/4qkz1jx

Skippy was 1 year old when she was found in a Freetown market, malnourished, with infected rope burns around her leg. Her mother was likely killed so she could be sold as a pet. Western #chimpanzee populations have dropped 80% in 25 years. apesreportingproject.org/res…
