not trying to get into the discourse (tm) but i do feel like fic writing used to be an acceptable way to find and engage in the fandom community and now if you write for any reason except to “make yourself happy”then you’re made out to be selfish and greedy

most fic writers don’t want engagement to “get famous” or anything. it’s just that when you put your heart into something, it feels good to know people liked and enjoyed it. it also helps motivation to write more. if you ignore fic writers, there won’t be any more fics to read🤷‍♀️
