WHAT HAPPENED TO KEYNESIAN ECONOMICS?
The principle was simple.
Run surpluses during the boom. Run deficits during the bust.
But the political cycle replaced the economic cycle.
Governments discovered that spending today wins votes, while the consequences of borrowing can be pushed into tomorrow.
Now comes the reckoning.
📈 Bond yields rise.
💰 Debt-service costs accelerate.
❄️ Economic growth weakens.
Governments enter the next downturn already running deficits, with little fiscal ammunition left.
Do they cut spending, raise taxes, inflate away debt, or eventually restructure their obligations?
The tragedy of Economic Winter is not simply that the credit cycle turns down.
It is that governments may have exhausted their capacity to respond before the downturn even begins.
