‘It seems that Muslimness has become almost like a racial identity, that it’s evidence of being a marginalized group.’
I think one thing that’s true, that many people have noticed, is that new immigrant groups are making a play at casting themselves racially and eliding their identities with black Americans to be able to make demands based on claims of prejudice and oppression even if there’s near zero supporting historicity and the people making the demands tend to be privileged elites.
Me on Democrats and the racialization of Islam:
"You have people like Zohran and Abdul who are very openly and outwardly Muslim, but it’s interesting the way their Muslimness is represented. When you think about Zohran, we don’t actually know a lot about the content of his faith or how practising he is or what he actually believes. It seems that Muslimness has become almost like a racial identity, that it’s evidence of being a marginalized group. It's no longer a theological category. And I know that frustrates some people, but Zohran is so popular and so successful that people are largely okay with that trade-off.
I think Abdul is interesting because he is definitely quite practising, and we know that Islam has been an important part of his life. But again, it doesn’t come out really fully. And I think there’s a lot of reticence for even these openly Muslim candidates to talk about the content of their faith, especially when it comes to social issues.
Abdul has had major opportunities to say things on trans athletes in women’s sports. He went on Fox News and was asked a question about that, but he punted. Democrats are so careful about not offending constituencies that even when they might have socially conservative values, they don’t actually express them. And I think there’s a real bind there. Like, can you be a fully fledged member in good standing of the Democratic Party and sound off conservative notes on LGBTQ issues? And it’s not clear that you really can."

To my fellow Democrats and Americans, this is why I want JB Pritzker gone.
He hit us with 63 tax and fee hikes since 2019. That’s about $86 billion extra taken from families and businesses. Doubled the gas tax from 19 cents to 38 cents and locked it to inflation forever so it just keeps going up. Seven of his eight budgets broke spending records, top one hit $55.9 billion. Illinois got the highest tax burden in America now, 53% higher than the national average. Highest combined state and local taxes and highest cell phone taxes too.
Truth in Accounting gave us an F on finances, worst unfunded pensions in the country. A Chicago taxpayer is sitting on about $79,500 in combined state and city debt. He signed a pension sweetener for Chicago cops and firefighters that adds like $11 billion more by 2055. Chicago’s pensions got over $50 billion in promises and only $14 billion in assets. We still got the lowest credit rating of any state.
He barely vetoes anything, under 1%, just 29 vetoes on almost 3,500 bills. Signed every single bill in the 2026 session, 395 of them. Promised to veto those partisan gerrymandered maps then signed them anyway. While he’s been in office 11 former state lawmakers pleaded guilty or got convicted, including Madigan on racketeering. No real ethics reform.
About 275,000 people left Illinois in his first term and took $35 billion in income with them. We’re on pace to lose a congressional seat after 2030. Private sector job growth basically nothing at 0.1%. Ranked 43rd in the country.
During COVID he dropped 119 executive orders. Extended the emergency 42 times and ruled by decree for 1,155 days, longer than 49 other states. Schools ranked 43rd for actual in-person learning. Auditor General found $5.24 billion in improper unemployment payments, $2.8 billion of that just gone to identity theft and never coming back.
Chicago Tribune linked him to Bahamas trusts that may have ducked millions in taxes while he was raising taxes on the rest of us. Cook County Inspector General said his family pulled toilets out of their Gold Coast mansion to get a $331,000 property tax break. His name came up on Blagojevich’s wiretaps too.
He’ll say 8 balanced budgets, 12 credit upgrades, bills backlog cleared, $2 billion rainy day fund. Those “balanced” budgets needed $86 billion in new taxes. The backlog got cleared with federal COVID money. That rainy day fund is nothing next to $90 billion in debt and the worst pension mess in America.
Elections coming. Read the receipts then go vote. We trying to fire JB Pritzker, man. This guy gotta go. That’s all we asking.

BREAKING: France just voted to tax the internet.
French lawmakers approved a tax of €0.055 (5.5 cents) for every gigabyte of data that companies like Netflix and YouTube send to French users. It’s a tax on the companies, not users directly, but the cost could get passed on to subscribers.
The vote was 11 to 10, with only 35 of 577 lawmakers present. Supporters say it could raise up to €10 billion a year. The French government opposed it, warning it would hit smaller French companies hardest; VLC says it would cost it over €1 million a year.

This amendment to France's 2027 budget bill was narrowly adopted 11-10 in the National Assembly (35 voters present) but is not yet law, faces government opposition, and must still clear further Assembly/Senate steps.

POLAND COUP CRISIS: WARSAW POLICE RESPOND AS CROWD SWELLS OUTSIDE CONSTITUTIONAL TRIBUNAL AMID TUSK-NAWROCKI RIFT
Poland's constitutional crisis escalated on Friday as riot police were deployed around the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw, crowds of opposition supporters gathered outside the building, and President Karol Nawrocki abruptly canceled his official visit to Senegal to return to the country.
The confrontation erupted after Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska announced the suspension of Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy, Bartłomiej Sochański, for one month, triggering a fierce dispute over who legally controls the country's top constitutional institution.

‼️ A COUP IS HAPPENING IN POLAND 🇵🇱
Poland's Constitutional Tribunal is being subjected to an extraordinary takeover operation by pro-EU Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Its official website has been taken over, an announcement has appeared removing its president and vice-president from their duties, and police have been deployed around the institution.
The Tribunal's existing leadership has declared the operation illegal and accused those responsible of committing a coup d'état.
The Constitutional Tribunal is the institution responsible for reviewing whether laws comply with the Constitution. It is broadly comparable to the constitutional-review function of the United States Supreme Court.
Today, its website announced that President Bogdan Święczkowski and Vice-President Bartłomiej Sochański had been suspended for one month.
The person now claiming authority over Poland's Constitutional Tribunal is Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, elected to the Tribunal by Donald Tusk's parliamentary majority in March 2026.
But there is a fundamental legal problem: she has never taken her judicial oath before the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.
Under Article 4 of the Act on the Status of Constitutional Tribunal Judges, newly elected judges must take their oath before the President of the Republic.
Nawrocki refused to receive her oath. Instead, on April 9, Korwin-Piotrowska participated in an alternative swearing-in ceremony organised inside the Polish Parliament, without the President's presence or participation.
The Presidential Chancellery explicitly declared that this procedure had no legal basis and could not confer judicial authority. The existing leadership of the Constitutional Tribunal maintains that she is therefore not legally a judge of the institution.
And now, a woman whose authority to serve as a constitutional judge is rejected by the President and the Tribunal's existing leadership is being presented as the person entitled to take control of the entire court.
Poland's Constitution does not give the prime minister or his government the power to dismiss the Constitutional Tribunal's leadership.
Article 194 establishes the Tribunal's composition and the procedure for appointing its president. Article 195 guarantees the independence of its judges.
The announcement of a suspension relies on Article 130 of the law governing ORDINARY COURTS. Invoking this article to suspend the leadership of the Constitutional Tribunal is a legally indefensible distortion of the law, revealing a staggering disregard for elementary constitutional principles.
HOW DID POLAND GET HERE?
Donald Tusk returned to power in December 2023, promising to reverse the judicial reforms introduced under the conservative Law and Justice government.
Those reforms had been fiercely opposed by the European Commission, which initiated rule-of-law proceedings against Poland and linked access to European funding to judicial conditions.
Tusk's government subsequently presented Brussels with a programme for restructuring the judiciary, including the Constitutional Tribunal. The European Commission welcomed that programme and ended its Article 7 proceedings against Poland in 2024.
The methods used by the EU and its supporters undermine the very constitutional principles they claim to restore.
President Karol Nawrocki has reportedly interrupted his journey to Senegal to return to Poland.
