When everyone you speak to is certain a sell-off is coming, it rarely shows up on schedule. Every conversation lately: "November to January will be the worst time to be in the markets." When fear is this crowded, most of the selling has usually already happened. My contrarian bet: the surprise after November could be on the upside.

Applied for the Jio IPO knowing the allotment odds are roughly the same as finding parking in Bandra on a Saturday. Still checking at 12:01 AM. Hope is a terrible long-term strategy, but a great short-term hobby. Check it out here ipostatus.kfintech.com/

Indians put 10x more money into small-cap funds than large-cap funds last month. Then came this week. In September, Indian investors put ₹9,039 crore into small-cap funds and ₹859 crore into large-cap funds. That's more than 10x. This week, the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 7.3%, its worst week since February 2025. In the Smallcap 250, 66 stocks fell 10% or more in just four sessions. And yet, even after the fall:
Nifty Smallcap 250: 34x earnings
Nifty 50: 19.4x earnings A fall is not the same as cheap. Prices came down, but the valuation premium is still there. SIP flows hit a record ₹32,490 crore in September, which is a good habit. But where the money goes matters as much as how regularly it goes.

MTF is one of the worst habits an investor can pick up. You are paying 12–18% a year in interest on borrowed money. That means your stock has to beat that cost before you make a single rupee. Borrow ₹5 lakh at 15% and hold it for a year. That is ₹75,000 in interest. If the stock goes nowhere, you are down ₹75,000. If it falls 20%, your loss is magnified, and the broker may square off your position at the worst possible time. And interest is charged every single day, whether the market is kind to you or not. India's MTF book is at a record high while the index has gone nowhere for a year. That is not a bull market. That is leverage building up. The pattern is always the same. Stretch to the maximum limit. Market falls. Blame the market, the government, the FIIs, the news. The problem was never the market. It was the position size. Invest with the money you have. Conviction does not need borrowed capital.

Howard Marks’s most famous crisis memo was titled “Nobody Knows.” Not “The Bottom Is In.” Not “Sell Everything.” Just an honest admission that the future is uncertain. The best investors aren’t the ones with answers. They’re the ones comfortable without them. Howard Marks: “You can’t predict. You can prepare.” You can’t predict when this correction ends. You can prepare: no leverage, sensible position sizes, SIPs running, cash for opportunities. Preparation beats prediction every single cycle.

4 weeks of relentless selling. Every message this week was a version of the same question: should I stop investing now? I'm doing the opposite. Here's my note to myself. Notes card: What I'm doing this week 4 weeks of relentless selling. We've seen this before.
Feb to March 2026: the same fear, the same headlines, the same "this time it's different." Then came April 2026. I'm not stopping. I'm adding. The best entries never feel comfortable.
If it felt easy, it wouldn't be cheap.
