People living with several chronic conditions need care that connects.
In Uganda, clinics are building on their experience of HIV care to offer treatment for hypertension and diabetes too, sharing staff and systems that help people stay on treatment.
Shared services can extend care, but they also need enough resources to care for more people.

Alcohol harm isn’t just a health issue, it’s a national crisis. Through stronger policies and higher taxes, we can save lives, protect communities, and build a healthier future. Increase excise tax on alcohol above inflation.

As we've always stated, our work requires a multi-sectoral approach to address alcohol-related arm.
In that spirit, we recently started introducing ourselves to the newly-sworn in leaders @GovUganda - beginning with those in the @MinofHealthUG .
Inset, we were from our interaction with @DrAyumeCharles (Minister of State for Health (Primary Health Care)) and we utilised this opportunity to make it known who we are, what works we are doing and our possible points of collaboration.
That day, we moved hand-in-hand with our colleagues from the Mental Health Division at the @MinofHealthUG , led by Dr. Lukwata Hafisa, the Acting Commissioner of the same Division.
Our team included our Vice-Board Chairperson @BagumaRT , our Former Board Chairperson @juliet_namukasa , our Secretariat represented by our Coordinator @MargaretNassan2 and our Programs Officer @archerfrom1997 plus our members @AlfredJatho from @UgandaCancerIns and @KwizeraChris8 from @UncdaUg .

🏫💙 Empowering schools to take action against NCDs!
During our recent school outreach at Kiyunga SS in Luuka District, we trained peer educators and teachers on NCD advocacy, equipping them to champion prevention and healthy lifestyles.
We also established an NCD Club to empower students to learn, advocate and lead for healthier schools and communities. 🌱

Last Friday, we (civil-society, representatives of various @GovUganda institutions and @WHOUganda ) convened @OPMUganda for our 4th Multi-sectoral Stakeholders Meeting on Alcohol Harm Prevention.
Lots of references were made to the 2019 National Alcohol Control Policy as well as the "SAFER Program"; these are documents every stakeholder of this endeavour must be familiar with. It's from these documents that short-term and long-term actions can be implemented all over the country.

#ICYMI, a week ago, we (civil society - our Secretariat, @KwizeraChris8 , @AlfredJatho ), members of academia as well as respective @GovUganda bodies (@MoLGUganda , @MoWT_Uganda , @PresidencyUg , @OPMUganda, @MinofHealthUG et cetera) convened @OPMUganda .
This was our third convening as the various stakeholders with a part to play in the implementation of the National Alcohol Control Policy (#NACPOfUganda) . We mapped out our next steps including areas of responsibility for each stakeholder, timelines, what can be implemented as soonest as possible among others.
Amongst the key findings @NazMTumwesigye from @MakSPH shared in this meeting was this,
"Uganda’s economy is currently estimated at roughly US$64 billion nominal Gross Domestic Product but could be losing 1-5% annually according to @WHO estimates for all countries with high per capita alcohol consumption. This is US$ 640,000,000 at minimum (1%) and US$ 3.2Billion at high side (5%) - @WHO ".
Wednesday morning, on UBC Star Tv we discussed why Uganda needs stronger alcohol regulation and to invite the public to our upcoming Alcohol Policy Conference.
