You see these construction projects that fail? Most times, the problem starts long before construction with forged approvals, corruption, and unqualified people doing work they aren’t trained for.

we must keep educating the public: building approvals are not just paperwork, and professional fees are not an expense to avoid. They are part of protecting lives.

My first time to own a computer was at Makerere university, I joined it so green.
I left Makerere a Medical doctor, writing software and building Startups, also acquired political skills, analytical skills, and much more.
We used to say, Makerere is a hill of endless possibilities and it's true. You can become so much than just acquiring a degree.
Still the more I acquired so much from the University, the deeper I realised how further I would've gone if the university was at the best of its glory like it used to be.
Even after realising how much I never acquired from Makerere due to it's declining potential, there's no place in Uganda or East Africa where I would've been exposed to all the knowledge, the skilling and the resources like I was at Muk.
When we say the university needs to be revamped, don't be deceived that it's supposed to be revamped to national standards, even at it's worst performance, Muk is the greatest University in East Africa. That's why I felt so angry seeing people comparing Makerere to local universities.
Even the university socials celebrated Muk being ranked number one in East Africa for another time in a row!!!! This is an embarrassment. It would've been news if it wasn't.
Nothing Special about Muk!!
I would've said this is one of the dumbest statement I have read this year but it's also important to enlighten those who lack exposure.
1. Makerere has the biggest laboratories in the country in Microbiology, immunology, agriculture, biochemistry, food science, engineering etc that if you're doing research, you would gain so much.
2. Makerere is the only university that receives internet directly from NBI and the only that gets more than 2.4gbps that if I'm doing research and need direct access to super fast internet, Makerere is your go to.
3. The Alumni network, Makerere has an Alumnus in every company in this country. Name it and I will tell you it's alumnus. Not doing cleaning but top office. This goes even beyond Uganda. Also something the university hasn't explored to it's roots.
4. Global Networks, Muk has connections to Microsoft, Google, MIT, Berkeley, KOICA, Bill and Melinda Foundation, IDI, MaRCCI, The Carnegie Corporation of New York, Rockefeller Foundation etc. This is one of the reasons why many lecturers join Muk to tap into this global network. Though end up not doing much of lecturing but if you had so much education, you would realise an affiliation to Muk is enough to propell you to global networks. Many have raised money through this affiliation.
5. Makerere has the highest concentration of brains in this country, that's why many government policies have a citation of professors and lecturers from there.
6. Makerere admissions are only given to the cream of the country. This means, it has the highest concentration of the best students of this country. This even should be a concern because we expect a lot from them.
7. If you want to study Nano technology, Makerere has the only laboratory in Uganda, Muk also extends to being the only place with some of the rarest micro organisms in the banker for research.
8. Makerere has raised so much money in research than all East African universities combined.
Many more.
Muk is so special that when you get to know how special it is, you feel so bad that it's not exploiting it's true potential.
I can talk about all things that make Muk special but will need the whole day.
As an alumnus, I will tell you that walking through the gates of Makerere, you see so much that you get heart broken that it's not utilized to it's fullest.
For example, I started building Startups when I was at the university, Makerere has all this network of alumni, a very special network but cannot build a VC valley to fund Startups straight from dorm rooms. Some will say there's incubation hubs but that's for small universities, Muk has potential to have a fully fledged VC base.
😂😂😂

My cousin was laboring to tell our grandma that he is studying at Kyambogo university, at last grandma was like u mean u mean Makerere of Kyambogo
In my village, they don’t ask you which university you went to… they ask you, “Which MAKERERE did you go to?”😂(Osomela ku Makerere ki?)
Victoria University has 15 years to respond to this 😂😂 Take your time, bambi… hopefully you’ll find enough space to celebrate your graduates like this! 🤣😭
Eh Makerere Oyeee😂🔥🔥
