Hey @thsottiaux a lot of developers had a bad day today. Nothing would be better than a cold beer, a warm hug, and a reset. 🍺 -> 🤗 -> 🔴

Today was a bad day for the Internet.
So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Railway is compromised, rotate all API keys as soon as possible Deployments are down so don’t wait to redeploy Attackers are draining keys in real time, we didn’t lose much but can confirm this is still an active attack Stay safe friends

Many (most?) investors disagree with me on this, but they are wrong. Gross margins on token spend, *at full utilization,* is the single most important metric for AI application companies. It's the purest measure of your value-add on underlying intelligence. 2/

Absolutely incredible… "Wedgewood Polls" just admitted they are a fake polling firm and made up their polls. Their fake polls have been posted in both the NYT and Nate Silver’s averages.

The Anthropic S1 sure is interesting. Anthropic warned that “harm that could result from a catastrophic AI-related incident” might be so large that it would be unable to obtain insurance to cover the potential damages. No shade to Anthropic, but how could any fund put money into an investment that could go to zero from a single incident? wsj.com/tech/ai/anthropic-re…

The whole “free Palestine” rubbish is a Trojan horse. It’s becoming increasingly obvious as time goes on. It’s an Islamist, anti-West ideology distilled in one movement. One flag. One cause. It’s sneaky. It convinces Westerners into believing they’re supporting humanitarianism. But it’s built on lies. In reality, it’s a subversive black hole. A demoralising agent designed to poison our societies with self hatred. But the horror of this movement is that it doesn’t just sit in the realm of geopolitics—In a war taking place in a region many couldn’t even point to on a map. No, it attacks the very soul of Western civilisation.

Christopher Hitchens: ”In 1786, when the United States was barely a country, it was having its sailors taken as slaves by the Barbary states, the states of the Ottoman Empire and North Africa. Tripoli, shores of Tripoli. Ships stopped, its crews carried off into slavery. We estimate 1.5 million European and American slaves taken between 1750 and 1815. Jefferson and Adams went to their ambassador in London and said, why do you do this to us? The United States has never had a quarrel with the Muslim world of any kind. We weren't in the crusades. We weren't at war with Spain. Why do you do this to our people and our ships? Why do you plunder and enslave our people? The ambassador said very plainly, Mr. Abdul Rahman said, because the Quran gives us permission to do so, because you are infidels, and that's our answer. Jefferson said, well, in that case, I will send a navy which will crush your state, which he did. Islamic fundamentalism is not created by American democracy. It's a lie to say so. It's a masochistic lie, and it excuses those who are the real criminals, and blames us for the attacks made upon us.”

You wouldn’t tell a gay/trans person to stop whining about LGBTQ hate. You wouldn’t tell a Black person to stop being sensitive over racism. You wouldn’t tell a Muslim to shut up about Islamophobia. So why are you comfortable saying these things to Jews about antisemitism?

Rioters in Marseille torched all the Jewish owned shops, while intentionally not attacking the Muslim owned shops. Tell me again how this is about “students”?

I lived in this delusion for many years. The sweet summer child of a high-trust, homogenous upbringing. Beautiful innocence, really. Wish I could have it back. But now I own a 9mm and a .45 instead.
Do people in Europe understand now why Americans “cling to their guns”?

We call on France to exercise restraint when dispersing the freedom fighters on the streets of Paris. These brave warriors for justice must receive immediate humanitarian aid, and their safety must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Failure to comply will leave us no choice but to bring a case before the ICJ, in close cooperation with that renowned champion of human rights, Afghanistan.

Yes, El-Sayed signed a letter in Arabic in 2012 calling on the new Muslim brotherhood government in Egypt to crack down on dissenters. It’s so outrageous that people think that it must be made up right-wing propaganda, but it’s real. 1/
