🌿 COP17: 14 Decisions Adopted During the First Week
During the first week of COP17 negotiations in Yerevan, Parties adopted 14 decisions under the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Cartagena and Nagoya Protocols.
The decisions address key issues, including biosafety, invasive alien species, gender equality, awareness-raising, compliance, and monitoring.
CBD Executive Secretary Astrid Schomaker highlighted the extensive negotiations, constructive dialogue, and consensus-building efforts behind these outcomes.
The first week's progress marks an important step forward, while the ultimate measure of success will be the tangible difference these decisions make for nature and people.

During the closing dialogue, “Scaling Implementation and the Pathway to 2030,” Lilit Haroyan, Head of the Investment Promotion and Foreign Relations Department at EA, highlighted how closely our economies are connected to the natural world.
From the resources businesses rely on to the ecosystems that sustain communities, nature is an essential part of long-term economic prosperity.
Lilit also showcased the opportunity to make biodiversity a more integral part of investment promotion. With the right policies, financial instruments and partnerships, environmental priorities can translate into viable investment projects that create value for businesses, communities and nature. Organic agriculture plays an important role in reducing the environmental impact of farming and protecting biodiversity.
Organic certification standards restrict the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, helping preserve soil fertility and promote environmentally responsible production.
