And now the first thunderstorm of the season drowning out loudspeakers. Make of it what you will
In the streets of Jerusalem now a car with Likud flags and loudspeakers blaring the Muezzin call to prayer and “Get out of your homes now. Arabs are voting. You need to save our home!”

An Egyptian court has ordered the closure of news site @MadaMasr and security forces detained its editor in chief, the legendary Egyptian journalist Lina Attalah, taking her out of the courtroom. Mada is one of the last remaining bastions of the free press in Egypt.
Mada Masr Editor-in-Chief Lina Attalah was fined LE3 million by the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court, which convicted her on charges of managing an unlicensed website, issuing an order for the website’s closure. Attalah was taken into custody after the issue of the ruling. Tuesday’s session at the ninth circuit of the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court, presided over by judge Mohamed Mubarak, was temporarily suspended for deliberations after Attalah’s defense counsel requested time to review the case file. After the court returned from deliberations, the judge ordered the courtroom cleared of everyone except Attalah and her defense counsel, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights’ executive director Hossam Bahgat, who was also present, told Mada Masr. The room then filled with plainclothes officers and guards, with a National Security Agency officer in attendance, he added. The presiding judge and a Supreme State Security Prosecution representative returned to the session and the judge announced that the court has decided to stand by its rejection of all the procedural arguments presented by the defense, including requests to bring in any documentation or hear any witnesses. The judge then asked the defense team to present its plea. The counsel insisted that it would not submit a plea as long as its requests were unanswered by the court. The judge then abruptly asked for a lawyer unknown to any member of the defense counsel to be brought in, “in a move that astonished all those present,” said Bahgat, and announced that the court decided to appoint a lawyer for Attalah. At that point, all members of the defense counsel cried out to reject the court’s appointment of a lawyer when the eight chosen lawyers were present. Attalah herself spoke to say she did not accept the court-appointed lawyer acting on her behalf, an objection the judge refused to have recorded in the session’s minutes. "In an even more shocking move,” said Bahgat, the judge himself began to log down the requests of the court-appointed lawyer, without the lawyer having said a word. The judge then read out the conviction amid shouts and protests from the defense counsel. The judge sentenced Attalah to the maximum possible penalty: a LE3 million fine, the closure of Mada Masr’s website and the confiscation of its property. Security personnel then surrounded Attalah, lifted her off the ground and took her out of the courtroom, where she remains in custody in the courthouse.

Like clockwork, they're back...
Every time the media starts buzzing about a potential big Israel-Lebanon war, hotel reps start coming around the AP office in Beirut and handing out business cards 🙃

Israeli media, apparently unencumbered by the usual military censorship on matters of national security, reports that IDF CoS Zamir is trying to block Netanyahu from launching “some kind of military action relating to Iran just before Tuesday’s election”. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…

Changing USA-Israel relations: AIPAC announces that while it will keep financing U.S. politicians on behalf of Israel it will no longer endorse them publicly, in what seems like quiet recognition of its increasingly toxic reputation. @saige_miller, @NPR: npr.org/2026/10/21/nx-s1-601…

Considering the Trump administration’s constant internal mayhem, I think it may be wise to prepare for a scenario where they accidentally end up giving MINURSO’s mandate to UNIFIL and vice versa.

With MINURSO up for mandate renewal on Oct. 31, the United States has put forth a draft that would completely change its mission, dropping the referendum on independence in favor of merely negotiating the form of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. en.yabiladi.com/articles/det…

A report by Matthew Cole in @VanityFair alleges potential high-value corruption on the part of Jared Kushner, linked to secret foreign policy slush funds set up with Emirati and Saudi money. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k… Kushner rejects the allegations: xitter.cf/jaredkushner/status/21…
.@VanityFair posted an excerpt from a book containing outrageous and categorically false allegations. The allegations made by this author are completely insane and never happened. We denied every one of these claims on the record, yet the author failed to provide a single shred of evidence to substantiate any of them. No bank statements, wire transfer records, account numbers, transaction dates, or other verifiable details were provided to support these extraordinary accusations. During the period in question, I was one of the most scrutinized people in the world, subjected to intense media coverage, multiple congressional investigations, and a special counsel investigation. I voluntarily cooperated with these investigations, providing over 30 hours of testimony. None of these allegations ever surfaced, because none of these events ever happened. These are outrageous fabrications being presented as investigative journalism. This is not journalism. It is a mixture of fantasy, fiction, and advocacy, written by someone who is either deeply disturbed or acting with sinister intent.

Little bit of an opening on Lebanon, maybe?
