Highlights from: Operationalising One Health for Climate Change and Emerging Infectious Diseases in Asia and Europe – From Principle to Practice
What decides whether a disease emerges and spreads – climate, land use, food and water systems, the movement of people and goods – sits largely outside the health sector. One Health is widely accepted for that reason. Making it work in practice is the hard part.
Over two days in Munich, 41 participants from 17 ASEM Partner countries took on that challenge. They came from government agencies, WHO and EFSA, research institutions, civil society and the private sector, across human, animal and environmental health.
Participants shared how their countries are putting One Health into practice, from national coordination mechanisms to joint surveillance and community engagement. The discussions showed how much Asia and Europe can learn from each other, and the value of working across sectors, disciplines and borders.
The dialogue is part of ASEF Public Health Network’s new multi-year One Health framework. Our thanks to the Center for Global Health at TUM, the Department of Neurology, TUM University Hospital, and knowledge partner the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute.
A short report with key recommendations for national and cross-sectoral action will follow.

Healthy Cities in a Changing Climate: A One Health Approach.
Cities are warming faster than the areas around them, and the effects reach human health directly and through the environments cities depend on.
On 11 October, a side-event at the Fast-Track Cities Conference 2026 in Berlin applied a One Health lens to these challenges, looking at heat, air and water quality, food systems, and the needs of vulnerable urban populations. Speakers shared insights from the Lancet One Health Commission and lessons from Southeast Asia. A panel discussion explored practical entry points for cities, health systems and cross-sectoral partners to act.
Thank you to our speakers, participants and co-sponsors: Fast-Track Health, SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute, the Center for Global Health at the Technical University of Munich, the Lancet One Health Commission and the Asia-Europe Foundation.

🌏 Road to the Multi-sectoral Dialogue on One Health.
That human, animal and environmental health are connected is by now widely accepted. What remains difficult is putting it into practice: working arrangements between ministries that function beyond the signing of a memorandum, data systems health authorities can use in routine work, and national frameworks that set out responsibilities among institutions.
Progress across Asia and Europe has been uneven. Preparedness tends to fail in the space between what has been committed to and what is actually being done.
From Principle to Practice dedicates Day One to operationalising One Health, global frameworks, including the recommendations of the Lancet One Health Commission, alongside case studies of cross-sectoral governance. Day Two applies that lens to climate change and Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Convened by the ASEF Public Health Network with the Center for Global Health at TUM, the Department of Neurology, TUM University Hospital, and knowledge partner SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute.
