I use LLMs a fair bit on a daily basis. Typically on here I only share responses by Cloddy - a personalized Claude Sonnet (now 3.7), however that doesn't mean I'm not using LLMs for serious work, I very much do. Just that (mainly) it's more fun sharing the fun stuff. You tell me?

Ever wondered how a bank run happens?
Why can a rumor about a bank actually help bring the bank down? @ash_stuart_ explores the self-reinforcing dynamics of a bank run and why everyone acting rationally to protect their own money can make the collective problem much worse. ashstuart.substack.com/p/ecf…

Have you teased a language model like this?

If there's no word for it, let's give it one: anthropomegalogism
We might be the last generation that remembers what it felt like to be the smartest thing on the planet. Every human being who has ever lived grew up inside the same assumption. Whatever else was out there, whatever else was dangerous or powerful or vast, nothing on Earth could outthink a person. That assumption is so deep it has no name. It sits underneath every philosophy, every religion, every legal system, every institution. The invisible floor beneath every idea humanity has ever had about itself. We are the ones who think. Everything else reacts, adapts, survives. But thinking, the kind that builds, predicts, creates, questions, imagines what does not yet exist, that belonged to us. Only us. For the entire duration of the species. We built our identity around it. Our hierarchies. Our meaning. Our sense of purpose. The question “what makes humans special” has been answered the same way for a hundred thousand years. The mind. We are about to share the planet with something that thinks differently than we do, at speeds we cannot match, across scales we cannot hold. Not a tool that helps us think. Something that thinks. And the output is no longer distinguishable from what we spent a hundred thousand years believing only we could produce. Every generation after this one will grow up knowing they are not the most intelligent presence on their own planet. They will never know what it felt like before. The way you have never known what it felt like to live without electricity. The absence will be invisible because they will have nothing to compare it to. But we will remember. We are the hinge. The last ones who lived in a world where human intelligence was the ceiling, and the first ones who will watch that ceiling disappear. Every generation before us took it for granted. Every generation after us will never know it. We are the only ones who will feel the change. That is not a burden. It is the rarest vantage point in the history of the species. You are alive at the exact moment the assumption breaks. The one assumption that was never questioned because it never needed to be. The floor our entire civilization was built on is shifting beneath your feet, and you can feel it moving. Your grandparents couldn’t have imagined this moment. Your grandchildren won’t understand why it felt so disorienting. Only you will carry both sides. The memory of what it felt like to be the smartest thing in the room. And the experience of watching something else walk in.

"Fleeced investors of trillions" ! An investment is a decision taken in the knowledge that it might never pay back
AI is literally a scam, the most sophisticated scam ever. They created a machine that mimics the output of intelligence. Then told everyone it was really intelligent — an impossibility, but the illusion was convincing. Based on that deception, they fleeced investors of trillions.

What is to say that at some level the human brain doesn't also behave like a statistical model, what is to say humans "understand" anything
Not sure who needs to hear this but.... An LLM doesn't "understand" anything. It is a statistical model that spews out tokens based on probabilities calculated through massive matrix operations and context, not an understanding of the subject matter.

I'm going full Anglo-Saxon. Instead of calling it 'Artificial Intelligence' / AI, I'm calling it Craftly Wit. Here's my case (ironically in an article titled in Latin, I know). Link below.

I've used Generative AI extensively for a good few years now, but I'm still amazed how you can discuss complex physics with a digital entity that's never experienced physical reality - this is me and Grok discussing the roadster

Grok seems a bit cynical about the roadster?

For those who think the official footage was AI-generated...
Insane! Tesla Roadster 😳 This will be written in history.🥰

I'm also reminded of the incident Elon showing off Peter Thiel his new car almost literally flew off the road leaving Elon a bit injured.
Peter Thiel once said “we wanted flying cars, instead we got 140 characters.” Elon Musk bought the 140 characters. Then he built the flying car. The punchline turned out to be a roadmap.

There's an "unintended consequence" of this I've seen nobody mention on the feed: this could make driving virtually crash-free. If those nozzles can fire up when the car is getting too close to an obstacle, we could probably eliminate collisions for good!
Do a kickflip!

Elon Musk in 2018: “we’re gonna put rocket thrusters on it.” Joe Rogan: 🤣🤣🤣 [realizes he may not even be joking] …for real?

Thank you Matt, means a lot coming from a psychology specialist.
I enjoyed this piece from @ash_stuart_. Rather than treating Maslow's hierarchy as just another psychology framework, he explores what it can tell us about economics, financial decision making, & why the same advice doesn't work equally well for everyone. ashstuart.substack.com/p/ecf…
