One of the BEGIN alarm missions uses a QR code. You can put that code somewhere away from the bed, so turning off the alarm means physically getting up to scan it. It's basically making a contract with your future sleepy self. A contract future-you will absolutely hate 😂 apps.apple.com/us/app/begin-… #iOSDev #BuildInPublic

App Store screenshots are such a weird format. You have about two seconds to explain why a stranger should install something you spent weeks building. Meanwhile, your brain wants to include every feature because you suffered for each one. Marketing really is an exercise in emotional restraint. #iOSDev #IndieHacker

A* tries to find a path through a graph. RRT goes exploring and hopes to connect the dots. I like that robotics has an entire field of mathematically respectable ways to answer "how do I get over there without hitting stuff?" The math is a lot less casual than the question 😂 #Robotics #Algorithms

The funniest thing about asking AI for advice is how confidently it can explain a mistake you haven't even made yet. I'm pro-AI. Very pro-AI. I just think "can you show me why?" needs to become a normal follow-up question. #AI #AIEthics

Been thinking about an offline games app under ShawStudio. "Works without internet" sounds like the most basic feature in the world, until you realize how many apps have quietly made Wi-Fi a personality requirement. Would you rather have 100 tiny games or 10 really good ones? #GameDev #IndieHacker

An alarm can get you out of bed. It cannot stop you from immediately opening the same app you've been scrolling for 40 minutes every morning. That's the annoying reason BEGIN has Focus Mode too. Waking up and actually starting the day turned out to be two separate problems. #iOSDev #BuildInPublic

In robotics the same point can have three different coordinates depending on which frame you're using. And somehow all three answers are correct. I came here to learn about robots and ended up arguing with linear algebra 😭 #Robotics #ComputerScience

iOS devs: when you ship something paid, what do you actually prefer as a user? A short free trial, or a useful free tier with paid upgrades? I'm genuinely curious how people see this when they're NOT the ones trying to pay the bills 😂 #iOSDev #IndieHacker

Building software for other people is a strange feeling. They don't know which line of code you were personally afraid to touch. They just tap the button like it's supposed to work. The confidence people have in other people's code is incredible 😂 #BuildInPublic #Coding

ShawGames taught me that once real traffic shows up, caching, CDNs and storage stop sounding like system design interview topics. They become things you actually have to keep working. Nothing motivates learning quite like production 😂 #WebDev #BuildInPublic

One thing I actually care about in BEGIN: If the app is making you do squats while you're half asleep, the last thing I want is your camera feed going off to some random server. The pose detection runs on your iPhone using Apple's Vision framework. I know an alarm that makes you exercise is already annoying enough. It doesn't need to be a privacy experiment too 😂 #iOSDev #Privacy

BEGIN is live on iPhone. An alarm with wake-up missions for people who treat snooze like a close friend. Tried it? I'd rather hear what's confusing than get a polite "looks cool". apps.apple.com/us/app/begin-… #BuildInPublic

One weird downside of AI: it can turn a five-minute worry into an infinite research project. You ask one question, get five things to check, then another ten. It never runs out of answers. Which isn't always the feature you needed. #AI #Technology

If your alarm said "solve a math problem to turn me off", would that wake you up or make you throw the phone across the room? Asking for completely professional product-research reasons. #BuildInPublic #iOSDev

we also have squats and pushups, who are the consumers? health and fitness?

Making an alarm app is funny because people meet your UI at probably the least reasonable moment of their day. Half asleep. Zero patience. One goal: make it stop. Truly a forgiving audience for UX decisions 😂 #iOSDev #BuildInPublic

I had one job: make an alarm app. Somehow I ended up with squats, math problems, QR scans, morning plans and a paywall. This is exactly how side projects become startups in a TV show where nobody sleeps. #VibeCoding #IndieHacker

Serious question: how many times do you hit snooze before it becomes a lifestyle? I built BEGIN because morning-me is great at negotiating five more minutes. Now the alarm asks for a challenge instead. Personal attack on myself 😂 #BuildInPublic #iOSDev

Now that BEGIN is actually on the App Store, I keep catching myself thinking "okay, so... what now?" 😂 Weeks of bugs and review queues, and suddenly the button says Download. Anyone else feel weirdly nervous AFTER shipping? #BuildInPublic #iOSDev

Also, we are giving Premium free for the first 3 days. If you feel it's good enough, consider buying a subscription and making my life a little better, too. Pun intended.
