A moment of reckoning for Bihar? Highly possible. When a region punches above its weight it is a sign of a new confidence and ambition. In particular, this could be the first confident expression of getting out of the Socialism-mindset that has bogged down so many regions of India for 75 years. Plus, once you see the taste of institution building, once you see multiplication factors operating on the ground, there is no looking back. This is what happened in the regions of Maharashtra, Karnataka in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. Its impact is seen even today. Most of these institutions had western origins but they grafted it in ways that were completely Indian. Maharshi Gobinda Ranade, Gopalakrishna Gokhale, Tilak were all at once activists as well as Institution Builders. In Mysore, the Maharaja himself was an institution builder and was joined by that legendary man Sir M Vishweshwaraiah. The region saw an exponential restoration and overcoming of colonial pressures. In the most socialist era of 70s, Karnataka Govt established Electronic City not because of the vision of the present leaders but the force of the past itself was that good. In the Gangetic region, Madan Mohan Malaveeya was that pioneer. Why he did not become the inspiration for others remains an intrigue with the barring exception of Chief Minister Sampurnanand. Nitish Kumar, in his good times, has shown this confidence. Most outside Bihar did not know of this Museum until a couple of years ago. Nitish saw its importance early on and confidently invested against opposition which deserves immense respect. May this newfound confidence spread itself into all walks of life.
When Bihar set out to spend Rs 500 crore on a new museum, an academic went to court to stop it. A state this poor, he argued, couldn't afford it. This week, that museum was ranked ninth in the world, above New York’s Met and the Louvre. Swarajya walked through it last year.🧵

What a pious, serene and mesmerizing this ceremony is. The last post played by buglers is so absorbing that it transcend one to the memories of the braves who laid their lives for our peace. (Only those who have developed these emotions while in service can understand the connect. Rest may take it as just a tune) May we live upto the expectations of the great nation, cherish the moment and work towards making this country worthy enough of the sacrifice. Jai hind 🇮🇳🙏

The mad wannabe King of India By Justice Katju There have been many mad kings in history, e.g. Roman Emperors Nero, Caligula, and Commodus, the British king George III, Bavaria's king Ludwig II, Mohammad bin Tughluq of India, etc Rahul Gandhi claims the right to be on the throne of India ( as its Prime Minister ), as he regards himself to belong to India's royal family ( the Nehru-Gandhi family ) which has the divine right to rule India till eternity. Having been dethroned by the BJP in 2014, like the British Stuarts in 1649 or the French  Bourbons in 1789, the Indian royal family dreams of a restoration like that under Charles II in England in 1660, or in France under Louis 18th in 1815. The Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar wrote a famous verse '' Sinhaasan khaali karo, ki janta aati hai ''. Rahul has paraphrased this to read '' Sinhaasan khaali karo ki shaahi khaandaan aata hai ''. However, his recent actions give the impression that he is non compos mentis. Consider his recent insane decision to have a mock parliament on 30th October at the house of Congress President Kharge to 'impeach' the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… This was later revoked, ostensibly because of inclement weather, but probably because the allies of the Congress party in the INDIA bloc refused to attend this ridiculous gathering, which, if held, would have been like the Mad Hatter's Party in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland', and have turned them into a laughing stock. youtube.com/watch?v=6e9fpuYT… Rahul has also announced a gathering of 10 lac ( 1 million ) people on 1st November at Ramlila ground, Delhi to protest the alleged vote chori ( vote theft ) of 13 crore ( 130 million ) votes at the instance of Gyanesh Kumar. The maximum capacity at Ramlila ground would be about 1 lac ( 100,000 ) people. How can 10 lac people assemble there ? Also, traders of nearby places have protested that the date 1st November falls during the festival season in India, when many Indian festivals like dhanteras, diwali, kadwa chauth, etc are falling in close proximity, and the traders expect huge sales in this period. They apprehend a loss of Rs 10,000 to 12,000 crores if the rally is held, and have asked for its postponement, but Rahul is adamant on the date. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/… thehindu.com/news/cities/Del… As regards the allegation of vote chori against which the rally will be held, my opinion, which I have expressed repeatedly, is that whether there is vote chori or not is irrelevant to the common people of India. This is because the test of every political activity is one, and only one : does it raise the standard of living of the people ? Does it give people better lives ? Even if there is no vote chori, there will be no improvement in the lives of the people, as explained below. So how does it matter to the people whether there is vote chori or not ? At most there will be a change of rulers if there is no vote chori, but the people's lives will not improve. indicanews.com/does-india-re… indiatoday.in/india/north/st… youtube.com/watch?v=xL5lg-qq… youtube.com/shorts/gJ3l27qIF… youtube.com/shorts/mb9L328TK… All this is beyond the understanding of India's fatuous and vacuous wannabe king

I don't think people realise how big a deal this is. If you have cancer, or somebody you know has cancer, there is a company in Hyderabad that wants to build a personalised cancer vaccine for you. Try approaching any big pharma company and asking for a personal vaccine. If they even reply to your email, this is the response you'll get: we don't do that here. PopVax, on the other hand, takes your tumour sequencing data (or a sequence you've designed), designs candidate neoantigen vaccine sequences with their AI pipeline, produces the mRNA, encapsulates it in their LNP formulation, fills vials, and runs QC, all in 8 to 10 weeks. They’re publicly committing to capacity for 100+ of these over the next 12 months and asking people to email them their cancer type/stage and sequencing details. What a time to be alive.

We have all heard of the name - Tetrapak. It is almost synonymous with food packs that do not require refrigeration and increase shelf life. We all have grown speaking the word. Tetrapak is a Swedish food processing technology company that installs and builds the entire line with tools and tech to enable food to be packed at their customers premises. It controls the entire process and the installation is called tetrapak lines. It is a world leader. Recently attended one of world’s biggest trade fair of food industry in Paris - SIAL and here I see Lamipak from China taking on the world leader. The best the Indian stalls in the same show had to offer was basmati rice and pic 2. This is how to interpret @andymukherjee70 ‘s pov on machine tools
Andy Mukherjee took an iPhone apart and counted the parts India imports. Go one layer deeper. Every one of those parts was cut, pressed or placed by a machine. A country’s machine tools are the closest thing economics has to a civilisational indicator. They set the ceiling on everything downstream: defence, chips, electric vehicles, aircraft. You cannot build what you cannot make the tools to build. Every workshop of the world had its mother machine. Britain had Maudslay’s lathe. America had its armories and Ford’s tool rooms. Japan had FANUC and Mazak. Steam got the credit. The lathe did the work. The world’s ten largest machine-tool builders earn about $21 billion a year, roughly a twentieth of Apple’s revenue. A small industry with an enormous lever. Nearly everything Apple sells passes through their machines. Japan has four of the ten. Germany has the largest. China has one. India has none. Twenty years as Apple’s classroom taught China to run machines by the tens of thousands. It never taught China to build the best ones. The tuition loop has a ceiling, and the ceiling is the mother machine. India founded Hindustan Machine Tools in 1953. The country remembers it for wristwatches. The watch unit closed. The machine gap stayed open. India buys about $2.2 billion of CNC machines a year and imports $1.2 billion of them, almost all of the hard 4- and 5-axis end. A nation that imports its machine tools imports its ceiling. The deepest import is the controller, the brain of the machine. India has always bought it from abroad. Owning the hand without the brain is not owning the machine. Ford said that without Johansson’s gauge blocks, his tool rooms would be blind. A country that cannot measure a micron cannot sell one. India pays for phones. Then for parts. Nobody yet pays for the machines that make the parts. Assembly is a job. Components are an industry. Machine tools are sovereignty. Count the parts in 2030. Then count the machines.

If Prasar Bharati can spend ₹15 crore a year on a DD News show featuring a star anchor, while the ISRO Chairman’s basic pay is about ₹27 lakh a year, shouldn’t we rethink our priorities? If India wants to conquer space and attract our finest scientific minds, our rewards must match our ambitions.

The scrambled eggs at a hotel breakfast are 19% water, and they're dyed. A lot of hotels and cafeterias pour them from a carton of Papetti's Breakfast Blend. The spec sheet reads whole eggs, 19% water, then under 2% of salt, xanthan gum, citric acid, annatto color and natural butter flavor. Papetti's is part of Michael Foods, one of the biggest egg processors in the country. Every ingredient has a job on a steam table. Xanthan gum holds the added water in the egg so it doesn't weep into the pan. Citric acid keeps the eggs from turning gray or green under a heat lamp. Annatto puts back the yolk color the water washed out. The butter flavor is there because nobody is going to add butter. The carton keeps for 98 days in the cooler. The plain version from the same company is whole eggs, whey, skim milk, xanthan and citric acid, with almost no added water and half the sodium.

When NH 8 from Gurugram to Delhi is packed and traffic is not moving it’s crawling, maybe someone in the traffic police in @dtptraffic should have stopped trucks and goods vehicles on the border. The city is choked and polluted. @LtGovDelhi @gupta_rekha at least, monitor things. Pollution control is not a half page ad in a newspaper. A choked highway and its afternoon only. Governance is maybe at its lowest. So many years and nothing to show. Ambulance is just ahead of me on the highway, not able to even move. Trucks and trucks. Even an ambulance cannot move in this traffic. There has to be some level of performance in your work.
