with the ao3 outage it seems like a good time to remind folks: fandom is built, maintained, and grown by volunteers. ppl who love the same worlds, characters, ideas that you love. using their one wild and precious life to do hard, often thankless, work for their fandoms.

So are you guys gonna be nice to Fic Writers now that you may not have them for a month.

see this is what happens when y'all take things for granted + treat fic writers like garbage. y'all criticize fic authors for every small little thing and even chase people out of fandom spaces over it then act like the world is ending every time ao3 goes down. make it make sense
We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/

People really will immediately comment and retweet everything about AO3 being down, but wont retweet the promo posts of the fics they love.
Guys im BEGGING you to redirect that energy to supporting the writers you claim to love.

Idk maybe instead of relying on the Internet Archive and people’s download collections it would be a nice time to actually build the community that’s been sorely missing in the fanfic space lately and reach out to your writer oomfs whose fics you were reading or had on hold

if ao3 means so much to you and is such a big part of your daily life that you feel the weight of its absence now, let it also be a reminder about the importance of leaving kudos and comments even if its just a simple "i loved this!" to show writers you care about their hard work

One thing that does irk me about fan responses to Ao3 being down, and not just this particular time, is the emphasis on how they cannot go without their bedtime fanfics but the majority of readers do not give their favorite fics or writers the engagement they deserve.

time for everyone to wail and gnash their teeth about ao3 being down a week after yet another "fanfics writers are entitled" go-around

as much as it sucks ao3 is going to be down for weeks i do hope it kinda serves as a wake-up call for people regarding how important fic writers are in a fandom

SOME OF YOU GUYS WERE BEING CRITICAL OF AUTHORS FOR THE PAST MONTH AND NOW WE HAVE NO AO3 FOR A MONTH SEE THE IRONY

ao3 going down for a month is an awfully apt conclusion to the past two weeks of people acting weird towards fic writers
project hail aster ᯟ ★ retweeted
Idk i just feel like when ao3 is back up I need everybody to be heaps more graceful towards fic writers because if two weeks without their works is painful then maybe we shouldn't be discoursing weekly about how much you think they suck at writing.

I spiritually blame A03 going down for 2-4 weeks on all those nasty people that constantly complain about what fic writers do. You brought us here with your bad juju.
