17 Negro Leagues legends were inducted into the @baseballhall in 2006. The one and only Buck O’Neil delivered the speech. ❤️ #BlackHistoryMonth

Buck O’Neil was a legendary baseball man and storyteller through eight decades in the game. He helped create the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City in 1990 and kept the history of Black baseball alive into the 21st century. O’Neil was a 3-time All-Star with the Kansas City Monarchs in the 1940’s. Later as a scout for the Chicago Cubs, he signed more than a dozen Major Leaguers including future Hall of Famers Lou Brock and Lee Smith. O’Neil proudly spoke at the Cooperstown induction ceremonies of 17 Negro League legends in 2006 and was elected to the Hall of Fame himself in 2022. O’Neil’s plaque reads in part, “Character, integrity and dignity defined a life dedicated to baseball.” #BlackHistoryMonth

In what might be his final game, Zack Greinke walks off the mound at Kauffman Stadium to a standing ovation. 💙
