At last, since I'm too indecisive to whittle it down to a smaller number, here's most of the new releases I liked in 2025: 1. Metal LPs 2. Punk/Post-Punk/Goth/Occult Rock 3. Ambient/Electronic/Industrial 4. Folk/Neofolk/Acoustic 5. Black Metal EPs/Demos/Splits/Compilations (👇)

sure dude avert thy gaze see if i care

love when an album dwells safely in the "really good" realm and then one song suddenly escalates to "so here's an actual glimpse of heaven to keep you on your toes. you thought we were good but not THIS good did you?" like This Mortal Coil but even better elysiumnumero.bandcamp.com/t…

Desert E.A.G.L.E.'s Nest

Still so damn good, relisting to it after a couple years this actually feels a bit like a modern USBM reading of Bak de Syv Fjell or smth to me Maybe the black metal project I want to hear more from the most, together with Upamsu (released the same year) youtu.be/5Nk_F4GqQ6o?is=qN6Z…

Pronouncing Evoken like hadouken

I hadn't heard this in a few years and forgot just how gorgeous it was, even better than their work with Zelda (the band), feels like a dreamlike summer night in Okinawa So in love with this ethereal cabaret pop from Japan, Junko Kudo, Gekko Imonkyaku, C.Memi, Suppurate System..

So beautiful and tranquil. Subtractive ambient dream pop, layering meditative drones and ethereal vocals with hypnotizing ripples of sound like synthetic birdsongs, traces of space rock & psychedelic folk. A bit like His Name Is Alive but less "fragmented" youtu.be/edzPWUp4cAk?is=iHaO…

Before Rhinocervs youtube.com/watch?v=24Asxx7H…

Band is unknown and short-lived ✅ Washy, hazy production ✅ Spacey and psychedelic effects ✅ Deep vampiric voice ✅ Puerto Rico coming through with some great gothic rock (sort of shoegaze-lite), quite atmospheric and lowkey, raw in all the right places youtu.be/FISGyabNwFI?is=sLKC…
