I'd estimate between 40 and 60 percent of my non-@reason online work since 1993 is no longer accessible. @internetarchive & @waybackmachine provide essential research while threatening nobody's business model. I hope @brewster_kahle succeeds in quest to keep preserving the net.

It’s almost like producing good work with AI tools requires talent and skill.
I’m starting to think this is astroturfing. I’ve tried at least 20 times now to give Claude 5.5 all the resources and time it wants to make videos and its nothing close to this. I tried skills, exact references. I tried having other models help. I tried teams of 8 or more or just one agent on max. I’d love to know how you one shot this because the stuff I see usually has terrible, terrible pacing, animation, camera sense, etc.

We were using @grok in my @Tesla Model Y, asked it a couple of questions in succession... Judd then accidentally called it Alexa, it said "I'm not Alexa" & then he went to rephrase & accidentally said Alexa again so Grok repeated "STILL not Alexa, here's the answer..." 🤣🤣

Yes.
Same. I'm probably wasting money/credits and energy somewhat, but I write in complete sentences, I say "please" a lot, and generally interact with my LLMs using the same language I try to use with any colleague. I do this not because I think the AI - a piece of software - actually cares. I do it because our habits don't care much about context. If I practice being terse and rude with an LLM, I'm only reinforcing bad habits for myself. I'm making myself worse in the process.

This needs to be understood by way more people. Most people you see creating stuff with AI and dropping it on this platform are not film studio executives who sit on top of multi-billion dollar corporate machines and just decided to use AI because they're cheap. They're people without access to the industry and its money, who are not independently wealthy, and whose projects would only ever live in their imagination were these tools not available. The "jobs" that are being taken from humans in that context never existed.
"You cost actual actors, stylists, technicians, and artist work and jobs to make this" No he didn't. Do you think that he's independently wealthy and could have very easily just dropped millions of dollars on this project but chose to use AI to save money? Or could it be, that without the permission and money of the studios, films like this just don't get made. No one is lining up to fund these stories. So it's either use AI or never tell them. It didn't cost anyone their jobs, because without the funding those job didn't even exist.

This was VERY hard to narrow down. There's several other albums I would put on this, but I can't figure out which of these I would remove to include them. 😭 I adore all of these albums. 💕

Cannabis legalization & drug legalization have much bigger substance than "people just want to get high" or bodily autonomy arguments. The drug war is a colossal failure that increases the surveillance apparatus and the police/carceral state, has cost us over a trillion dollars, and has separated a lot of parents from their families and generally has been harmful on families and communities in general. It has also impacted foreign policy including US interference in elections in other places, impacted the economies of other countries and has caused us to deal with an influx of immigrants escaping poverty or violence caused by cartels which are empowered by US drug laws. It's also part of the racket of government seizure of assets - civil asset forfeiture & the ways the government increasingly forces paper trails of money, to extract taxes and track how people spend their money. So people can complain that weed or drug legalization is about people wanting to get high - but every single person in this country (and in much of the world) is impacted in extremely negative ways by the drug war. Advocacy for ending it is so much bigger than the basic bodily autonomy issue of people having the right to put what they want in their bodies. It impacts public domestic and foreign policy, taxpayers, police and government intrusion on our private lives, surveillance, safety, communities, and more.

Party pro-tip - Judd and I throw a LOT of events. One of the last events we had ~150 people in our house. We did have catered food, though we served no alcohol (there was cannabis & microdoses of metocin, and we turn away anyone bringing alcohol). When we do potlucks or events with catering that aren't formal sit down dinners with specific portions per person, we set it up "buffet" style with plates, utensils, napkins, and then a line for food. Our biggest trick? SMALL PLATES. A lot of people grab more food than they're actually going to eat, or set their plate down and abandon it due to conversations, and the people at the front of the line end up taking a lot more than the people at the end, because of opportunity. It's not a seated event, it's not "dinner", but we want to feed our guests - we just don't want to see wasted food, and we want everyone to get some. So all my plates are 7", no bigger. "Appetizer" plates. Really hungry? Get what looks good that fits on your plate and come back around for more, giving everybody a chance to get some. Obviously if it's a smaller or more intimate gathering you can give everybody big plates and do it however your dynamic works - but for events like this, more than 25 people, with buffet style offerings and a more "cocktail networking" vibe - this really helps maintain a good dynamic and gets everybody fed.
