a lot of people seem to think that we need to be constantly sacrificing as much as we can for any reason because Jesus sacrificed for us. this is not true! certainly we can never hold our own life too close and pretend we are better than God, but Jesus gave His life to save us, because giving His life could save us, and was the only way. this is why we are thankful to our Savior. but opening the door for Bob (that would not actually be his name) the rapist murderer to rape and kill you and your wife and children is not the same type of sacrifice. you are not saving anyone! it's almost a form or self-idolatry to believe that anything, simply by our giving it up will create good in the world. you cannot create good on your own, but only through that which Christ has given you. do you not consider that you are a steward of what you have been given? why then do you wish to destroy that which God has given to you for a purpose?
