Alhamdulillah, I am humbled to be elected as the MP for Hithadhoo Medhu, the largest constituency in the Maldives. Many thought it was impossible, but with Allah's will, we have triumphed. Heartfelt thanks to my constituents and supporters across the Maldives.

It’s encouraging to see esports receiving recognition at the highest level of our country. From making esports part of his campaign pledges to announcing plans for the Maldives’ first and largest esports arena, President Muizzu has brought attention to an industry with huge potential for our youth.
Having had the opportunity to speak with him about esports myself, it’s great to see the conversation continue to grow.
Esports is more than gaming. It’s talent, competition, opportunity and a future for Maldivian youth. Seeing our President acknowledge that is a meaningful step forward for the entire community.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Asim Abdulla represented the Maldives Police Service at the First Annual Forum of the International Investigative Cooperation Alliance (IICA), held in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 21 to 23 October 2026.
Organized by the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) @polinlove , the forum brought together international partners to strengthen cooperation, share expertise, and enhance joint efforts to combat cross-border scam crimes.
During the forum, ACP Asim Abdulla signed the IICA Resolution, reaffirming our commitment to stronger international partnerships and collective action against transnational organized crime.
It might sound simple, but it really isn't. We need to understand that this is a deeply ingrained practice in our society. For generations, MPs, community leaders and people in prominent positions have been expected to contribute towards Eid celebrations, Ramadan activities, mosque renovations, sporting events and almost every other community activity. These expectations did not develop overnight, and making such contributions illegal won't magically make them disappear.
Now, you could argue that none of this is the responsibility of an MP. And you would be absolutely right. Legally, we have no obligation to finance these activities. But there is a difference between what the law requires and what society expects. When a practice is so deeply rooted in our culture, the social pressure to conform is enormous. Most MPs end up contributing, not necessarily because they want to, but because refusing to do so comes with its own social consequences.
You cannot simply legislate away a deeply ingrained social expectation and assume that people will change their behaviour overnight. Changing the culture that has sustained these practices for decades is an entirely different challenge.
Solution is simple.
Bring MP salaries down to a reasonable level (around 30K) & then legally ban them from spending their own money on constituents.
Budget separately for travel & other official expenses. If these activities are necessary, they should be properly recorded & audited.
Also, can the MPs pls show us, with proof, how much they spend on their constituents? I bet they won't.

I am extremely grateful for the highly productive official talks we had today. We engaged in constructive discussions that lay a solid foundation for strengthening our bilateral ties, as we celebrate 60 years of formal diplomatic relations.
We reviewed our longstanding friendship and outlined joint priorities across key sectors, including trade and investment, health and education, environment and tourism, fisheries and agriculture, youth and sports, defence and security, training and capacity-building, as well as regional and multilateral cooperation.
I am pleased that we have agreed to take the bilateral trade between our countries from USD 13 million to USD 200 million within the next 2 years. I also thank you for the invaluable donation to our five million tree planting initiative.
It is a great honour for me and my country, to have been conferred the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in Politics and International Relations by the
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI).

ރާއްޖޭގެ ޤާނޫނުތައް އޮންނަ ގޮތުން ބިމުގެ މިލްކުވެރިކަން ދާއިމަށް ދޫކޮށްލުމަކީ ކުރެވޭނެ ކަމެއް ނޫން. މަނިކުފާނު މަޖިލީސް މެމްބަރަކަށް ހުންނެވިއިރު މަނިކުފާނު ނިސްބަތްވާ އަތޮޅު ފާފުއަތޮޅުގެ މިލްކުވެރިކަން ބޭރު ބަޔަކަށް ދޭން މަނިކުފާނުގެ ވޯޓާއެކު ފާސްކުރި ޤާނޫނު މިހާރު ވަނީ އުވާލާފަ.
މަނިކުފާނުގެ ސުވާލުތަކަށް ޖަވާބު ލިބުނު ކަމަށް އުންމީދުކުރަން. ގައުމަށް ފައިދާހުރި މަޝްރޫއުތަކަށް، ސަރުކާރުގަ ހުއްޓަސް، ނެތަސް ތާއީދުކުރަންވާނެ. ކުރިން ހުންނެވި މަގާމުގައި ހުންނެވި ނަމަ މަނިކުފާނު ތި މޭރުމުން ތިވާހަކަ ނުދައްކަވާނެކަން ޔަގީން.
ރާއްޖެއަށް ބޮޑެތި އިންވެސްޓްމަންޓްތައް ނުގެނެސް ތަރައްޤިގެ ދުވެލީގައި ރާއްޖެ ކުރިއަރައި ދިއުމަކީ ނާދިރުކަމެއް. އެފަދަ ޕްރޮޖެކްޓްތައް، ރާއްޖޭގެ ރައްޔިތުން އެދޭ ގޮތަށް، ހާމަކަން ބޮޑު ގޮތެއްގައި ތަންފީޒު ވުމަކީ ކޮރަޕްޝަނާއި ފަސާދައިން ދުރުވެ، ޕްރޮޖެކްޓް ކާމިޔާބު ވުމަށް އެޅޭނެ މުހިންމު ފިޔަވަޅެއް. ޢާންމުވެފައިވާ މަޢޫލޫމާތު ތަކަށް ބަލާއިރު ރަސްމާލެ ޕްރޮޖެކްޓަކީވެސް އާދަޔާ ޚިލާފަށް ބޮޑު މަޝްރޫޢުއެއް.

2. ރަސްމާލޭގެ ބިމާއި ވަށައިގެންވާ ފަޅުގެ އަގުމަގު ކުރެވިފައިވޭތޯ؟ އަދި އެއީ ކިހާވަރެއްތޯ؟
3. އިންވެސްޓްމަންޓުން އަޕްފުރަންޓް ޕެއިމަންޓްގެ ގޮތުގައި އެއްވެސް އެއްޗެއް ލިބޭތޯ؟ އަދި އެއީ ކިހާ މިންވަރެއްތޯ؟
4. އިންވެސްޓް ކުރާ ފަރާތާއި ސަރުކާރުގެ ބައެއް ވެރިންގެ ޢަދަދުތަކުގައި ބޮޑެތި ފަރަގުތަކެއް އެބަހުރި. އެހެންކަމުން، ރާއްޖޭގެ ޤާނޫނީ އޮނިގަނޑުގެ ތެރެއިން ޓެކްސްގެ ގޮތުގައި ލިބޭނެ ކަމަށް ލަފާކުރާ އާމްދަނީ އަކީ ކޮބާތޯ؟ އަދި ވިޔަފާރީގެ ޓެކްސް ނުހިމަނާ، ޕްރޮޖެކްޓްގެ ތެރެއިން ދައުލަތަށް/ ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ލިބެނީ ކޯއްޗެއްތޯ އަދި ކިހާ މުއްދަތެއްގެ ތެރޭގައިތޯ؟
5. ބިމުގެ މިލްކްވެރިކަން ދޫކުރަނީ ދާއިމަށްތޯ؟ ބިމުގެ މިލްވެރިކަން ބަދަލުވާ ކޮންމެ ފަހަރަކު، 99 އަހަރު އަލަށް ފެށޭތޯ؟
6. 5000 ހައުސިން ޔުނިޓް ބިނާކުރަނީ ދައުލަތަށް ލިބޭ ފައިސާއިންތޯ ނުވަތަ ނޫންތޯ؟

Moody’s has upgraded the Maldives’ sovereign credit rating from Caa2 to Caa1, its first upgrade since it began rating us in 2016. Following Fitch’s upgrade in June, this is a positive development and reflects progress in debt management under President @MMuizzu
Moody’s Ratings has upgraded the Maldives’ Sovereign Credit Rating from “Caa2” to “Caa1” with a stable outlook. The agency cited the successful repayment and refinancing of significant debt obligations maturing this year, along with improved external buffers, resulting from the Government’s coordinated efforts as the rationale for this rating upgrade.
