Symbolism matters. “It’s just an Easter Egg! Stop overreacting!” Sure! It is just Jadis blowing up the “Eagle & Child,” which just so happens to be the famous meeting place of the Inklings. It is the place where some of the most important conversations around Narnia were held and where the foundations were laid. In a time where “subversion” is considered an artistic imperative, excuse me if I’m skeptical of this being anything BUT a purposeful symbol.
