Clearing Imeldific
SKETCHES - Ana Marie Pamintuan
In 2003, the Supreme Court ruled that Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos’ legitimate income from their combined salaries during their 20-year rule amounted to only P2.3 million ($304,372 at the time).
The amount was manifestly disproportionate to the Marcos couple’s $356 million discovered after the EDSA revolt in 1986 deposited in Credit Suisse in Zurich, Switzerland. The accounts were opened in 1968 under dummy foundations and entities, with Ferdinand and Imelda using the names William Saunders and Jane Ryan.
In November 2018, Imeldific was convicted by the Sandiganbayan of seven counts of graft in relation to the Swiss deposits. She was sentenced to a combined prison term of up to 77 years, but the anti-graft court allowed her to post P300,000 bail.
This year, in a decision dated June 10, 2026, but made public only in September, the First Division of the Supreme Court reversed the conviction and cleared Imeldific. Among the reasons cited was that the Swiss bank documents – the same ones used in the 2003 SC ruling – were not properly authenticated and therefore lacked probative value, and the prosecution witnesses lacked personal knowledge of the documents’ contents. tinyurl.com/5n8dttve

I’m saying this as someone na naghandle na ng mga tao - unless bobo, may favoritism, o tamad yung manager, those outgoing and maboka will def get ahead. But those who can see through people's masks know kung sino talaga ang reliable sa trabaho, irrespective of their personality.

This is true and spreads beyond public transport and into public utilities in general. Generations have been taught that the ideal life is to gate yourself away from the public and create ur own sanitized space. To mix with others is poverty. Don't know how to upend this pattern.

Your daily reminder that by and large, Filipino politicians and most of the upper level in the Executive branch have contempt - actual contempt - for public transport and that's the main reason things aren't getting better. I'll tell you when I think this changes

"2) they don't know how to be good friends"
Totoo to. Even outside of work, all I see are are yearning for a community or a friendgroup. Pero they themselves have zero capacity to put in the work to become a part of any of it.
If you want good neighbors, become the one first.
"No wonder she got amazing experience kasi nakatapak ng iba".

The trick to being a charismatic adult is to act like a 5-year-old.
Always say hello/goodbye to people you know, and just act like everyone is already your friend.
