$TAO Looking forward to checking in with the Shizz-Meister tomorrow to chat about all things Babelbit and Bittensor 🤙🏻
🚨 BABELBIT IS TAKING ON GOOGLE. August 13th at 11AM ET, @tom_tensor joins Shizzy Unchained to go deep on @babelbit, Bittensor SN59 and what could be one of the next major breakthroughs in AI communication. Babelbit recently put its machine interpreter head-to-head with Google’s Translation API using the SAME live German news broadcast. But Babelbit isn’t just trying to translate faster. They’re building AI that can anticipate meaning while someone is still speaking, allowing interpretation to begin without waiting for the entire sentence to finish. That means: Speech comes in. AI predicts where the meaning is going. Useful interpretation starts coming out with dramatically less delay. We’re talking Babelbit vs Google, how SN59 actually works, why Bittensor matters and what they’re building next. August 13th 11AM ET Tom Tensor × Shizzy Unchained The future of talking to anyone, anywhere, in any language might look a lot different than it does today. bittensor:native

It's strange to be this excited about an ecosystem in the middle of a bear market. Yet over the past few days: Minos working with OpenAI, Nova announcing Nanobodies, Engy integrating Kimi K3, Babelbit outperforming Google. The pace of innovation inside the $TAO ecosystem is unlike anything else I've ever seen in crypto. And these are just a couple of examples, it truly is crazy to see.

I should point out that both the Gemini and Babelbit recordings were made live in real time. We only started getting miners to work on audio models recently but there are some real super-stars out there. It works in any language from a single model. So it's hard not to just spend the working day as an international news junky watching live Khazak news in English. And as the BBC funding dwindles and the World Service cuts more languages, we can make up the shortfall. The BBC cancelled its German language in the 1990s, feeling that 50 years after Hitler's suicide, we no longer had to bring democracy to the German-speaking world. However, with Trump in power and Farage waiting in the wings, perhaps Babelbit can bring democracy to the English-speaking world.

Just this evening while reviewing an internal white paper Mica wrote this week and looking at the end to end dynamic dubbing system Josh is building (unique, SOTA, world first) considered if there are any folks more talented in speech tech globally then I don’t know who they are 💪🏻 @babelbit #sn59
Absolute ALL STAR 🌟 team behind @babelbit subnet 59. Lots going on behind the scenes. I'm sure many will be impressed with what is coming. bittensor:native

Always had a sense of the great potential of what you’re building. The strategy of working with resellers to penetrate specific markets… that’s gotta be the way to go! Maybe more SNs can adopt this approach. Impressive!

A key point to note here is that the reseller involved had already rejected Google's voice translation technology in favour of what @babelbit sn59 have built.

It seems like every time we scrape the surface of what transformer networks can do when built out of tokenised speech, a new product seems to invent itself. This one came out of a translation demo we made for people who only understand English - showing how an interpreter does more than just accurately represent what was just said, but morphs it into the best expression for the listener. Then we started getting sales enquiries: "do you sell the version without translation?", and Josh, our Chief Scientist said, "what like Grammarly for speech?" Then I started thinking about more than just correction, and moved into cultural sensitivity. What if some of your listeners are young children, and others are devoutly religious etc etc etc?

One thing makes this announcement stand out from most partnership announcements we see in $TAO. While Babelbit is already building a commercial prototype for one customer, the bigger story is the reseller model behind it. Instead of signing customers one by one, Babelbit is building a scalable distribution channel that can continuously bring new business.
We're excited to announce our first reseller partnership with Line21. We're also pleased to share that our first commercial prototype is already underway: a proof of concept for a 24/7 Spanish → English voice dubbing solution for a Spanish news channel. This marks the beginning of Babelbit's go-to-market strategy. Rather than building a large services organization ourselves, we'll work with specialist resellers who have deep expertise in specific industries and customer segments, bringing Babelbit's technology to the markets they know best. This is the first step, and we look forward to welcoming many more reseller partners in the future. $TAO

What Bitcoin did for stranded energy ... Bittensor does for stranded TALENT.
A Vietnamese miner with a GPU can now compete with anyone in the world. No visa. No approval. No gatekeeper. This is what Bittensor subnets actually unlock: anyone, anywhere, plugging into a global network and getting paid purely on contribution. This is what permissionless actually means.

🚨 The most impressive $TAO subnet founder story Babelbit SN59 @babelbit isn't a crypto project that discovered AI. It's 30 years of speech technology research that discovered Bittensor. Bittensor is bigger than crypto or what it should be, it acts like a magnet. It brings together people who would have never naturally met, researchers, founders, developers, domain experts, and aligns them around a common mission. They support each other’s progress because every breakthrough strengthens the whole. That is a very powerful thing. Matthew Karas @matthew_karas built one of the UK's first multilingual search engines at BBC News Online in 1997, covering 47 languages. Two years before Baidu existed. He worked alongside Mike Lynch, founder of Autonomy an £11 billion company built on the thesis that statistical analysis could extract meaning from text better than grammatical parsing. For three decades, Matthew worked on one problem: making recorded and live speech as useful as text. He built systems that cut documentary editing time by 75%. He deployed speech indexing across corporate markets. He kept pushing the frontier. In real-time speech, speed is everything. Then in August 2024, his colleague Josh Greifer called with news that changed everything: 50 milliseconds of latency for speech transformation. Potentially 25ms. That was the kind of number that makes an experienced person stop and realize: this could finally be good enough to change the whole category. Mike Lynch was supposed to hear about it over a pint the following week. He died in a yacht accident four days later. This breakthrough was not just technical, it was also deeply personal. That breakthrough became @babelbit. Here's why this is different from everything else in AI translation: Every translation system you've ever used works word by word. It waits for you to finish speaking, converts each word, and outputs the result. Every error, every mishearing, every confusion gets repeated. That’s translation. Babelbit is building interpretation. When someone says, “I pledge allegiance to the...” a human interpreter already knows where it’s going. They don’t wait for “flag.” They translate the thought, not just the words. Babelbit’s LLMs aim to do the same thing. Not next-word prediction. Utterance completion. The system commits to a translation as soon as it can adequately predict the rest of the sentence. Sub-3-second latency. Interpretation-grade quality. Self-corrections, which happen constantly in real conversation, get handled the way a human interpreter would: process the context, catch the correction, output only the final clean version. The architecture is serious: a two-stream design with one low-latency stream for live conversation and one high-accuracy stream for a trusted translation of record. Custom metrics like EATP, Lead, and ACS do not just measure accuracy. They measure how early accurate predictions can be made. Matthew said it himself: building this as a centralized company in 2024 meant going head-to-head with Google, Meta, and OpenAI. Bittensor offered a different path: Babelbit was built using @AffineSN120 decentralized training at scale, incentivized iteration, and an ecosystem of complementary subnets like @chutes_ai, @MacrocosmosAI, and @hippius_subnet. The real-time translation market is projected to exceed $29B by 2030 French-English real-time interpretation is launching next week. V2 infrastructure is deployed. This is what lt real use case looks like. Decades of domain expertise. Human interpreters immediately recognize. Mathematical. There is nothing like this in crypto. There is barely anything like it in centralized AI. Babelbit did not come to Bittensor because it was trendy. It came because the architecture fit the problem. That’s what many miss. When world-class builders choose Bittensor not for the token, but for the infrastructure, it starts proving itself. $TAO DYOR

I continue to be impressed by the quality of Subnet founders in the Bittensor ecosystem, and @matthew_karas is no exception. I got to chat with him yesterday about everything he's building with @babelbit. Here's what we got into 👇 00:00–08:00 — Matthew's background & why Bittensor clicked 08:00–13:30 — What Babelbit Is: Real-time speech-to-speech translation...built to match human interpreters. 13:30–19:30 — Core Insight: Translation ≠ words. It’s meaning, context, and semtantic prediction. 19:30–24:30 — How Bebelbit Improves: Miners compete to upgrade the model & LLM judges score accuracy, latency, and nuance. 24:30–30:00 — Incentive Design: Everyone contributing earns. Top performers win big in competitive rounds. 30:00–39:00 — Structural Edge: Academia couldn’t fund this. Bittensor crowdsources model training at scale. 39:00+ — Endgame: AI interpreters → no language barriers. Every conversation becomes global.

@babelbit (SN59) is hitting an inflection point. • v2 infra deployed • new incentive mechanism live • public repo imminent • product demo almost ready (FR ↔ EN) • team expanding 3 months of building. Now they’re shipping. What’s interesting here: this isn’t just another “AI project”. It’s a serious attempt to build a real-time interpreter, not a translator. If the demo delivers: → miner attraction → rapid model improvement → Bittensor growth flywheel Clear asymmetry: limited downside upside = global communication infrastructure SN59 is getting hard to ignore. $TAO

Most translation systems were built before LLMs existed. They chain speech-to-text → translation → paraphrasing → text-to-speech. Four separate models. Four separate delays. We are doing everything in a single shot. Babelbit uses a multilingual speech-mode LLM trained to behave like an interpreter. No conversion to text. No separate paraphrasing step. The model generates output in one shot - predicting ahead, removing expletives, adjusting tone - all simultaneously. Just like knowing not to swear in front of your grandma. The contextual intelligence is built in. Translation at the speed of thought.

The ONLY way to find gems is truly diligencing where real economic value is being built in $TAO we have one of the most compelling ecosystems that many don't seem to understand Key to growth has been Bittensor's incentive engine, enabling below projects to tap into reward currency and create open source alternatives to take on large, profitable incumbent tech TAMs. some $TAO subnets of note - SN105 @b1m_ai at $1.4mm MC: announced today by @YumaGroup. Decentralised bandwidth marketplace, putting unused global bandwidth to work for AI data transfer - SN54 @yanez__ai at $6mm MC: Synthetic identity generation for KYC/AML stress testing for fin institutions. $900k+ raised already, also accelerated by Yuma. Rare subnet w/ use-case to go after US-listed whale customers - SN71 @leadpoetAI at $6.1mm MC: decentralised AI sales intelligence starting with lead gen; led by ex-NASDAQ cofounding team, $750K raised, reporting $1M ARR run rate - SN68 @metanova_labs at $11M MC: AI-powered drug discovery which leverages competitive miners to screen MILLIONS of molecules for new drug candidates; building the machine for drug discovery via incentivised competition - SN44 @webuildscore at $24mm MC: AI-powered computer vision, one of the most commercially adopted subnets we track (many multi national use cases across sports / petrol networks / food packaging) . Astrid Intelligence (AQSE: ASTR) publicly expanded its position to ~3,180 TAO and became a Bittensor validator. Another Yuma Portco. - SN34 @BitMindAI at $11mm MC: Deepfake detection engine w/ consumer app on iOS + Android; incentives leveraged in adversarial architecture where (i) miners generate fakes and (ii) validators try to detect the fakes; the subnet literally trains against itself - SN59 @babelbit at $4.33mm MC: Real-time translation product, public API launching Q1, targeting French-English first. CEO Matt Karas, 25+ years in speech tech, built BBC News Online and co-founded ITV Player. For more crypto AI market coverage, follow @0xSammy and our team at @KhalaResearch

🧵 The TAO.com Subnet Spotlight with Matthew Karas, Fonder of @babelbit 👇 1️⃣ What real-world problem is your subnet working to solve? Current SOTA speech-to-speech translation is nowhere near good enough to replace a human interpreter. This is both a problem of latency, and trying to solve the wrong problem, i.e. accuracy is not the gold standard of output, as a good interpreter will create a version of the input, tailored to the listener's needs. 2️⃣ Why does your problem benefit from Bittensor? Several of the research projects in this space have stalled, because they don't have the resources to train new models from scratch. Bittensor gets around this limitation by providing access to miners. 3️⃣ What metric can you share to show how your subnet is making progress? Right now it's the Alpha price, but we will soon have performance metrics from the translation system itself. Interest from influential Bittensor commentators in our subnet increased about 2 months in, when we started making progress, and this has caused a measurable and stable (so far) increase in the price of our Alpha 0.0019 -> 0.0035 -> 0.0045. This is the best measure because the current challenge incentive scores are too abstract and variable to provide a clear indication of improvement (i.e. we make it harder and harder over time). This will change, as we move to our first translation challenge (Feb 2026), when we will be reporting on more intuitive metrics like translation latency, accuracy, authenticity etc. 4️⃣ What's the hardest design or incentive problem you've had to solve so far? The hardest thing has been to create a fair comparison for miners, so that they are all tested against the same data, without that data being exposed and available to people trying to create exploits. The next big challenge is to move from our current simple measure of latency (i.e. how many future tokens have been successfully predicted) to time-based measures, on translating actual speech. 5️⃣ What sneak peek can TAO.com share on your behalf that holders can expect in the 30 days? The main one is that we will be sharing our end-to-end translation system with a new "base script", which provides the miners with the ability to iterate and improve a functioning translation system. This will be a game changer - seeing the progress week on week towards a world-beating SOTA product.
