I really will miss this place if it goes. Election admin is a small field that and most ppl (understandably) don’t understand it’s nuances and struggles. For all it’s flaws, the bird app has allowed me to connect with other election officials and build a community.

Maxey doesn’t understand the difference between what the city does and the county does.
“If you cannot correct these mistakes … then I believe you should resign.” GOP Rep. Dave Maxey, chair of the Assembly elections committee, in a letter today requesting answers from Milwaukee election officials within 30 days about what happened at central count:

The reason @VotebeatUS exists is to be in the room where the voting is being counted and not out with the candidates, asking them how they feel about the counting. I think that paid off pretty well last night.
City officials have returned to the county courthouse with results from the five tabulators that they mistakenly forgot to extract results from the first time around.

Know what would be a VERY good thing to do today -- in the wake of that all-nighter in Wisconsin? Throw a little money to @VotebeatUS so that it can continue its essential reporting on the mechanics of voting at the local level. DONATE HERE: votebeat.org/support-us/

NEWS: Michael Gableman and the OLR have reached a deal that would suspend the former Supreme Court justice’s law license for three years to settle the discipline case over his conduct during a review of the 2020 election. Now goes to referee in case. SCOWIS will have final say.

With the caveat that the registered voter number is a week old and it was 404,065 earlier today, Dane County still turns out over 90% of registered voters.

Using the numbers here: cityofmadison.com/clerk/abou… there's 44,080 in person votes and 92,834 absentees returned citywide so 136,914 ballots cast so far. With 199,255 registered voters that's a turnout of 69%. (Nice.) Also, turnout from some polling places is still outstanding.
With numbers from about 100 wards reported (and 37 outstanding wards), 85,656 votes have been counted in Dane County as of 5 p.m., making up about a 42% turnout rate. Still no problems reported by municipal clerks about polling places across Dane Co., according to @ClerkDane.

During the Renaissance, people in Venice would vote by dropping little balls into an urn. The Italian word for “little ball” is ‘ballotta.’ Now any kind of secret voting, by ball, piece of paper, or voting machine, is called a ‘ballot.’

I do love an unusual polling place
Hello from the best polling place in America, AKA Shady Maple Smorgasbord. Where else but Pennsylvania can you go vote and then go to the nation’s largest buffet? xitter.cf/gill_mcgoldrick/status…

Election Day * The results you see tonight aren't official or complete. They never were. * It's not a sporting event where the winner is known when the clock runs out. * Declaring victory doesn't make a candidate a winner.

This isn’t nefarious but it is poor design. A ballot marking device shouldn’t mimic a hand-marked paper ballot. (It’s also likely just a calibration issue.)

A reminder that Wisconsin Republicans refused to pass a law that would allow mail ballots to be processed in such a way that would enable the count to go quicker. But now, expect the Trump camp to use this to draw baseless conclusions from it.
JUST IN: Expect a LOONG election night in Milwaukee. With the city of MKE about to surpass 80,000 early voters, the election commissioner says she expects counting to go into the early morning hours. She says counting to 2-3am is likely. @fox6now

I have no insights into the details but there is nothing less American than the idea you would do something like this to your fellow Americans. It is an insult to our founders, to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation, and for those around the world who would give just about anything to have the right to vote.
The Clark County Elections ballot drop box at the Fisher's Landing Transit Center was lit on fire this morning. Clark Co. Auditor Greg Kimsey says hundreds of ballots were inside at the time, the last pickup being 11AM Saturday. Full story here katu.com/news/local/vancouve… @KATUNews
